Guest guest
25 Dec 2002 Christmas is a symbol of undying optimism. Actually, the Lord comes into our lives, not once a year, but every minute. Yet we are unaware of this. Children, the sun does not need candle light; but we need it to find our way in darkness. Similarly, God needs nothing from us. But we need devotion and faith to illuminate the path of life. We need the guidance of mahatmas like Jesus Christ. Jesus, who clearly pointed out that humility and meekness lead one to the kingdom of heaven, did not hesitate to crack the whip against unrighteousness. However, He never acted in His own, selfish interest. Not only that, He even prayed for the well-being of those who crucified Him. Christ opposed those who made religion a business. The world has rewarded such opposition, then and now, with a cross and a crown of thorns. Jesus regarded only those who were prepared to bear this cross and the crown of thorns as His true followers. On Christmas day, it is customary to welcome infant Jesus by setting up a manger in front of our homes. But the real birth of infant Jesus has to happen in our hearts. There is a child within all of us. Christmas is an occasion that allows us to discover and nurture that child. When we have a child's innocence, enthusiasm and optimistic faith, we will not only become heirs to heaven, but will also be able to create heaven on earth. If we are ready to set aside at least a part of the money to be spent on Christmas gifts and celebrations in the service of the poor and suffering, that would indeed be the real Christmas celebration in Amma's eyes. ---- _ Amritapuri.org Page Posted on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 . © Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
