‘Life should be celebrated with good thoughts’

 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mata Amrithanandamayi on Saturday

said that life is a festival and should be celebrated

with good thoughts.

 

Addressing followers at the ‘satsangamam’ on the

second day of the Brahmastan Mahotsavam at the

Kaimanam Ashramam, Amma said it was a person’s mind

that lands him or her in misery and bondedness.

 

‘‘If we can cultivate the mind with good thoughts, we

will be able to tide over any crisis. There is

goodness in everyone and one only need willingness to

see it. We often care to see the shortcomings of a

person but ignore our own,’’ Mata Amrithanandamayi

said.

 

Mind needs nutrition in the form of good thoughts the

same way body needs nutrition. Good thoughts would

lead to good habits. We have the ability to control

others but often we fail to control ourselves, she

added.

 

According to Amrithanandamayi, joint prayers would do

more good than praying alone. ‘‘It is difficult for

even one person to read in the light of a zero watt

bulb. But several people can read with a hundred watt

bulb,’’ she reasoned.

 

Antony, Karunakaran meet Amma: Chief Minister A.K.

Antony, senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran and

Irrigation Minister T.M. Jacob met Amrithanandamayi at

Kaimanam Ashramam.

 

Antony and Jacob came together and received blessings

from the Mata. ‘‘You have become leaner than last

time,’’ Amma told Antony, recollecting their last

meeting.

 

The Chief Minister introduced Jacob to the Mata. The

two also had an in-camera meeting with the Mata.

 

Antony and Jacob were about to leave when Karunakaran

turned up. Mata greeted Karunakaran saying that he

looked ‘‘smarter.’’

 

Later, Amrithanandamayi told mediapersons that

Keralites needed to change. ‘‘The State needs more

factories. We are in perpetual poverty and it is time

to change things. I have told Antony about these

matters,’’ she said.
