Amma often whispers something into my ear as she is hugging me. Often this appears to be a Sanskrit quality or Deity name. As I knelt before Amma, I was thinking, "what aspect of the Divine can she reveal to me?" Amma began gently chanting, "Le-nord, Le-nord, Le-nord..." I thought, that doesn't sound like Sanskrit! And then I realized, Amma was chanting my OWN NAME, "Leonard," albeit with an accent. I arose, light-headed and no longer depressed, and told one of the devotees helping me down the stairs, "Amma was chanting my name. How did she know my name?" The devotee laughed and said, "What Mother doesn't know Her children's names?" -- Len/ Kalipadma ______________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Guest guest
Several things come to mind about these instances. One summer, I felt an intense need to consult with Amma on a lot of questions. (I think that was the last summer they didn't limit people as to the number of times they could get in the question line.) Finally, I just asked the question, "I have about a hundred questions I need help with. Does Amma really know everything about my life?" Mother's response through Swamiji was, "Mother knows your heart." I immediately looked at Swamiji with a "What does that mean?" look. He looked at me and said, "Yes, Amma knows everything." in a very matter of fact way. A friend at work had read Amma's biography and wanted to meet Her when She came to our city. Lori had been swimming every morning and chanting "Amma, Amma, Amma" with every stroke. When she came to Amma for her first ever darshan, Amma said her name, "Lori, Lori." Once at work I was having some problems and felt like I was being mistreated by this huge beaurocracy I work for. I was to have a meeting with "human resources" (love that name!) the next morning. As I drifted off to sleep that night, I remember thinking to myself that I didn't know how I would act with the head of HR, perhaps I'd be nice and perhaps I'd be a little snappish. The most amazing thing happened. The next morning when I awoke, I felt Amma's presence so strongly in my heart. I felt that she had been with me, and had left one word in my heart, "Compassion." The message was very clear that I was to go to this meeting and treat the head of HR with compassion! Well, my mind had a hard time getting around why these beaurocrats should be treated with "compassion," when they were the ones mistreating me, or so I thought. But regardless of what I thought, guidance from the guru is guidance from the guru, and so I went to that meeting and was just as nice as I could be. They were wanting to transfer me and I just went along with it, so I guess that was Amma's will. Anyway, my point is that Amma is always aware, and when we really need guidance, she comes to let us know what we're supposed to do. At least that's my experience.
