Hi Avinash

Werner is a westerner(dont know from which country) who was in ashram some

As far as I know, he was a highly determined man who looked about 30 during

then( perhaps

due to his beards). He used to meditate for months, interrupted just once in

few weeks for

bare minimum food to sustain the body. His abode of meditation was the cave

built under the

kalari.

I had seen him just 2-3 times, mainly due to my curiosity to know, about

the strange

man who lives in the cave. Being a child, I used to sneak till the entrance

of the cave along

with the brahmacharin who is entitled to serve food for werner. The food was

kept at the entrance

of the cave. Werner may or may not take this,( if he comes out of

meditation).

The story is as this:

Mother often use to say, "Those who strictly follow, what i say could

attain realisation

in 3 years". Also, mother often used to emphasise on the need of intense

mediation. It is to be noted that

this emphasis seemed to be little more than that of today. These was the

days during which our

swami's ( Amritha swaroopananda puri, Amrithaathmaananda puri,

pranavaamritaananda puri, poornnaa-

mrithaananda puri and some others) used to do intense sadana under the aegis

of divine mother.

Given above is the part of story which I have seen. Rest is told by an

uncle, when I inquired

him about werner.

Hearing this, Werner too confident on his determination expressed his

desire for

uninterrupted meditation. According to the uncle who told me, Wener used to

say -"what others

need do for years, I could do in half the time".

Mother happly agreed for Werner's plea ( may be with a cunning benign smile

in her face).

It is said that, after several months of intense sadana, when Werner came

out of the cave,

he felt that the intensity of spiritual aura was much more in above

mentioned swami's than

in him. (it is said that, sadaaka's could see the aura ). Werner inquired to

mother about this

irony. Its said that, mother smiled at him and told "Son, seem like the, you

have forgotten, the

effect of Guru's grace and physical presence on ones sadana". Hearing this

werner became disappointed.

Later he went back to some western country(I dont know where).

That uncle also told me that : werner has visited mother some 2-3 years

before. He came

with a trained dog to be presented to mother. He told that mother was so

pleased to see werner

after a long time. But seem like mother didnt accept the dog.

These is the Werner story which I know. Though most part is personally

known to me,

certain parts, i am not aware of the authenticity. What ever might be the

case: The moral is

"With out Guru's grace acheivements in spiritual realm is exteremely

difficult, even with

intense dispassion and determination".

Amritapuri! My understanding is that Werner emerged

from his cave on March 16, either 2001 or 2002. I

believe it was 2001. I understand that he is living

at Tiruvannamali (sp?) with his wife now. I have a

friend at Amritapuri who spent many hours in the cave

with Werner, meditating and talking. It was a

surprise to me that many people came to W. for advice

when he was in the cave, and that he actually was

very tuned in to all the goings-on at the ashram.

Its Amazing, I had been to Amritapuri twice, in July

1999 and Aug 2000. But no body said anything about

this personality, if not I would met him.

I read about Werner's account in the book "Come Quickly, My Darling

Children". There is also a photo of him with Amma. It's funny, from

the account I read I didn't necessarily get the feeling that his

attainment was so significant, though, apparently, he spent countless

months in that meditation cave. It says, by the way, he's from

Switzerland.
