The other day when Mother arrived at Bangalore, She discovered that the devotees in Bangalore had built a room for Her out of expensive teak wood and marble. Mother didn't like that one bit and refused to enter the room. She made a U-turn and walked back down the stairs and asked to be taken to a simple room instead. She said She was upset because they had spent so much money on Her when that money could have gone to the poor instead! A similar thing happened in Chigaco during the US tour. Mother had given long long darshans day after day after day, and night after long night, and after the all-night Devi Bhava She was going to go by car to Fairfield, Iowa, which would take about 7 hours. A man approached Mother during darshan, saying that he was chartering a private plane for Mother so that She could fly to Fairfield and get a little rest. Well, Mother wouldn't hear of it. She asked him to give that money to Her charities instead! And, so, She ended up going by car all the way to Fairfield. Such is our Mother - always setting the most glorious example!
