Guest guest
I have a question about the murti in Amma's Temples. Apparently these four-sided images portray Shiva, Shakti, Ganapati, and Rahu. In which direction does each image face? Presumably any form of the Goddess (Kali, Durga, Parvati, Lakshmi, Sarasvati, et al.) can be invoked at the Shakti image. And I read somewhere that the Rahu image can serve for any of the Nava-grahas (planets), and even for Murugan (Skanda). But where would a Vaishnava workship on such a murti? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sun, 02 Mar 2003 14:28:57 -0000 "crvijayan <crvijayan" <crvijayan writes: > I missed the match on TV. Guest guest
Perhaps if the Shakti murti is dressed as Mohini (Vishnu's female avatar), it could be worshipped as Vishnu. But Vaishnavas are strict lacto-vegetarians, and Shaktas at least occasionally eat meat (if animal sacrifices are done to Kali or Durga). And most Krishna-Vaishnavas I know are absolutely <terrified> of the wrathful aspects of the Goddess... I was thinking that a Vaishnava might worship Ganapati -- both Krishna and Ganapati have popular devotional forms as babies. One version of Ganesha's birth says that Vishnu sent an amsha (portion) of his self as Bala-Krishna to Parvati, and that was the baby who battled Shiva and ended up with an elephant's head. And there's a shloka to Ganapati that begins: <shuklambaradaram vishnum...> (bearing brilliant garments, and pervading all things...) ....which certainly SOUNDS like it's calling Ganapati by Vishnu's name. But I suspect Vaishnavas might feel slighted by the Brahmastanam murti. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Tue, 4 Mar 2003 13:40:50 -0800 (PST) balakrishnan Shankar <balakrishnan_sh writes: > > > ONS > > I would say that the Vaishnava worship can be done to Shakti too- > > Vishnu and Ambaal( Shakti) are the same.- both refer to Saguna > Brahman- the Total with attributes. Guest guest
ONS I would say that the Vaishnava worship can be done to Shakti too- Vishnu and Ambaal( Shakti) are the same.- both refer to Saguna Brahman- the Total with attributes. Of course you could say that the worhip for any deity can be offered to Shakti as She encompasses all forms- and Shiva is the Formless Absolute. But the connection between Krishna-Kali is esp strong . bala bala --- Black Lotus L Rosenberg <kalipadma wrote: > > I have a question about the murti in Amma's Temples. > > Apparently these four-sided images portray Shiva, Shakti, Ganapati, > and > Rahu.
