>From today's Times of India. If it's Saturday, this

must be Lucknow. Hope Amma's tour has a safe passage

through Bihar, notorious for dacoits (robbers), on the

way to Durgapur and Calcutta.

'Strive for spiritual revolution'

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SUNDAY, MARCH 16, 2003 01:18:16 AM

LUCKNOW: Spiritual revolution is the need of the hour

and every person should strive for it. This was Amma

Amritanandamayi’s call to devotees. Adressing

different issues ranging from family, international

terrorism to spiritual salvation, Amma had an answer

for all. Amma reiterated the fact that material

development had inverse relationship with spiritual

progress.

“Hence, even if one is living in an air-conditioned

home, one has to take sleeping pills in order to

sleep. People should air-condition their minds rather

than their environment,” Amma stated. “Besides, one

must also be conscious of what one says and does.”

Citing an example, she said that Draupadi’s

unwarranted comments on Duryodhana resulted in the

great war of Mahabharata. “Similarly, in life people

carry unnecessary burden on themselves that may be

related to employment, marriage and other affairs. All

one needs is to surrender to God and He will take care

of all worries — which does not mean that one should

stop trying,” she said.

Emphasising on the philosophy of the Gita, Amma said:

“One must do one’s karma and leave the result on God.”

Karma, she said, “begins from thoughts and any action

without thought brings pain.” Fear, said Amma, was the

major cause of tension today. “Some people have fear

of losing while others of gaining. Some nations fear

terrorist attack, while others fear being accused of

becoming a base for the attacks. Sadly, though we have

found cure for various air and water-borne diseases,

we have found none for tension. This tension saps our

health and energy.

It drains our mental peace. The solution to this

potent enemy lies within ourselves. And this

powerhouse or ‘atman’ needs to be tapped,” stressed

Amma. As long as one realises that what one sees

outside is the “manifestation of the disturbances

within, all problems will cease”. “Love is the food

for our soul and if people realise it then peace will

prevail everywhere. Be it husband, wife or parents and

children. A family is the basic unit of society, hence

all must strive to maintain it. Mutual love,

understanding and open channels of communication will

strengthen relationships,” was Amma’s reply to

increasing domestic strife.

The discourse was followed by bhajans and meditation.

The Colvin College ground, venue of the discourse, was

dotted with stalls exhibiting books and achievements

of Amma. Urban development minister Lalji Tandon

announced the Amritkutiram project on the occasion.

Under this project, land has been granted to the Mata

Amritanandamayi Math which will construct 1000 houses

for the homeless and poor in Lucknow. A book Jeevan

Rahasya VII (translated version of Awakened Children

VII) was also released by the minister. Mayor SC Rai,

Dinesh Rai, head, RSS, and Vidyasagar Gupta, MLA,

eastern region, UP were also present on the occasion.

Indeed Keval, Bihar is the 'Afghanistan' of India.

Historically this state is prominent with places like

pataliputra( now patna), Magada, Nalanda, Gaya,

Vaisali etc. Both Budda and Mahavira were from this

state.
