My son asked me a question the other day I could not answer... if anyone can answer this for me I would be very grateful. He asked me what Amma says happens to our souls after we die. Do they get attached to a new body immediately, or do they stay somewhere for a while? On a related note, I have also wondered what Amma says about when does the soul attached to a new body... at birth? At conception? Somewhere in between? There is also a small page on te passage of souls back to the earthly plane through conception and the like in her older biography- Mother of sweet bliss. Actually there is a fascinating story on this. Once Swami Purnamritananda saw that Amma was writing something very fast on some papers. He wanted to know what it is, but Amma forbade him to read it and hid it in a box under Her bed. But Swami was very curious- he stole into Amma's room, opened the box and took the papers out and started reading them. He was amazed to find that Amma had written many fascinating facts about what happened to a soul after its death, to which planes the souls go, how they come back etc... but no sooner had he started reading them, Amma came running into the room, ripped the papers from his hand and tore them up and threw them into the backwaters! Only a small portion was left in his hand which was later published as 'amrita upanishad' .. the page is seen in the older biography-Mother of Sweet Bliss- in a small passage where Amma talks about how souls come back from the 'lunar sphere' etc. I guess these are facts that we shouldnt know too much about .. or else why would Amma tear up those pages?- or maybe it is a part of Her play in acting as a simple fishing woman , hiding who she really is- The Omniscient Mother . Or maybe the pages would simply have been too confusing to understand.. i dont know. but this story was published in an article in the 'immortal bliss' magazine a few years ago .
