War is primitive and ugly: Amma

KOCHI: ``War is primitive and ugly. While fashion

concerns external attractions, culture reflects

internal beauty. Culture truly reflects the capacity

of one's mind to feel the pain of others as one's own.

War occurs when there is conflict between fashion and

culture,'' Matha Amrithanandamayi stated in a message

issued here on Wednesday.

``Peace is the path to liberation. Christ, Krishna or

Allah will reside only in a heart where there is no

war. It may be possible for us to re-build the nation

that is devastated by war, but the deep scar its

creates in the human minds may not heal even after

generations.''

``It is nice to see voice being raised against the

war. The voice of prayer should also similarly arise.

Let that soothing voice embalm the troubled hearts.

May peace and harmony prevail everywhere,'' the Matha

stated.

Amma conducts Thazhikakkuda Pratishta of Brahmasthanam

Temple

KOCHI: Amidst chanting of religious verses and hymns

by thousands of devotees, Mata Amritanandamayi on

Wednesday conducted the Thazhikakkuda Pratishta

(Sthoopika Sthapanam) of the 17th Brahmasthanam Temple

of Amritanandamayi Math at Kunnumpuram, Edappally.

Preparations for the pratishta commenced soon after

midnight with the Maha Ganapathi Homamm and Navakalasa

Pooja. The pratishta was held at 6.24 a.m., the

prescribed muhoortam, in an atmosphere charged with

religious fervour. A special platform had been

constructed atop the temple for the installation

ceremony.

Thousands of devotees and disciples from within the

country and abroad had flocked to the venue to have a

glimpse of `Amma' who is visiting the city after a gap

of five years. Union Minister of State for Defence O

Rajagopal was among the VIPs present on the occasion.

The close circle of senior disciples supervised the

proceedings at the venue. Math vice-chairman Swami

Amritaswaroopananda Puri, general secretary Swami

Poornamritananda Puri, Swami Amritananda Puri, Swami

Amritageetananda Puri, Swami Jnanamritananda Puri,

Swami Amritakripananda Puri, Swami Turiyananda Puri

and Swamini Krishnamritaprana accompanied the `Amma.'

After the Thazhikakkudam installation, Mata

Amritanandamayi performed Kalasabhshekam. Later in the

day, tantric poojas continued under the supervision of

priests from the Amritanandamayi Math. This included

Vishnu Pooja, Mrityunjaya Homam and Adhivasa Homam.

The massive pavilion built at the venue to facilitate

simultaneous poojas by more than 20,000 people was

jam-packed by early afternoon. The sea of disciples

continued to flow to the venue throughout the day.

Bhajan and satsang were held by 11 a.m. `Amma' offered

darshan up to 3 p.m. and later from 9 p.m.

The construction of this unique temple, situated in a

spacious compound near the Amrita Vidyalayam and

Amrita Dental College, began a year ago. The

foundation stone was laid by Swami Poornamrithananda

Puri on November 22, 2001. Since the consecration of

the first Brahmasthana Temple at Kodungallur in 1988,

five more temples, including the one at Edappally,

were constructed in various parts of the state.

Deva Prathista will be conducted at 1.08 p.m. by Mata

Amritanandamayi on Thursday preceded by a host of

tantric ceremonies. Mahaganapathi Homam and Navagraha

Homam will commence at 5.15 a.m. followed by the all

important Prathista Homam performed by disciples and

tantric experts. Vishnu Pooja and Mrityunjaya Homam

will be held in the morning. The pratishta of the

unique ``Sivakudumbam'' idol will be followed by

Kalasabhishekam and Parivara Pratishta.

Develop mutual love, trust: Mata

KOCHI: Mutual trust is the basis of family life and

strength of family ties can be measured only by the

amount of love and trust each person invests in the

other, Mata Amrithanandamayi said here on Wednesday.

``The husband and wife should share their feelings

with one another. Women should take care to preserve

their calm and tact throughout as they are the pillars

of the family,'' Mata Amrithanandamayi said while

addressing a mammoth gathering of devotees at

Kunnumpuram, where the new Brahmasthanam Temple will

be consecrated on Thursday.

Clad in white and with a serene smile on her face,

Mata Amrithanandamayi dwelt on the necessity to

preserve harmony and peace in society. Prayer is not

the sole path to inner peace, but it is created by

selfless service to others.
