Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya to All, We are all aware that Amma recommends the Ma-Om meditation. I love it when Swami guides us through it. "Hear the word Maa as you breathe in and hear the word Om as you breathe out...feel the silence both within and without..." I've always wondered what the meaning of "within and without" was...anyone? An observation from my attempts at saying Om: After saying Om out loud, breathe in through your nose. Just before you feel that your lungs are going to fill up any second, open your mouth slowly without discontinuing the breathe-in. If you do this the right way, you can hear "Maa" effortlessly. [it might be distractive for serious meditation, to hear physical and not cosmic sounds, but it feels good.] Jai Ma, Ravi The New Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. http://search. Technically speaking, the vocal cords are passive and will sound when air is passed through, whether it's in breath or out breath. So you can actually chant "Maa" the whole in breath as you would "Om" the whole out breath. I discovered this long time ago before I gained technical understanding. Suspect it's taught as part of the yoga of voice. You can actually sing songs on the in breath, though it takes a little practice and getting used to. At first the sounds I made on the in breath reminded me of the sounds of whales and dolphins. Then I discovered the pitches could be controlled with practice. So you could pitch "Maa" at the same place you pitch "Om". Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah
