Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya! Does anyone know if the travel desk at Amritapuri accepts credit cards for purchase of airline tickets? I would like to purchase a one way ticket to Amritapuri and then make arrangements for a return flight once I arrive, but I don't want to carry that much $ on me:) Gratefully, Kirsten

During my last visit, a local bank had been established at the Ashram and was open for a short period of time during the week. They had just established the means by which you can withdraw funds on a credit card. > You mentioned that you don't fly through Bombay or Delhi. I would hardly recommend that route now! Present difficulties aside, the return flight from TRV to Kuwait City missed the New York flight by an hour and a half. That meant waiting 22.5 hours in a hotel at the airport. I was not allowed to leave the hotel. There was nothing to do except play ping pong (bring your own balls) or watch CNN. Take along a good book! Have a look at: http://www.cheaptraveln\ etwork.com/trivandrum.html It depends on whether you are flying west to east or east to west. If the later, you might try flights from Thailand or Singapore. I have forgotten all the airlines that serve TRV and it has probably changed by now anyway. Guest guest
Travelling from San Francisco International airport to Kerala with my school 3 years ago, we flew to Singapore where we had a wonderful 8 hour layover before continuing on Silk Air (?) to Trivandrum. At Singapore, some of us had massage. Others went swimming. Others took a bus tour of Singapore. All of us took a shower and changed clothes in the "hotel" in the airport. Singapore is a GREAT place for a layover. We arrived much more refresshed than otherwise. We had a shorter layover in Singapore on the way home. Guest guest
Talking to myself again...we went from SFO to Hong Kong (brief stop; no deplaning)...to Singapore, from Singapore on Singapore Air to Trivandrum. For most of us it was our first trip, not only to India, but outside the US. The trip, as most of you experienced travelers know, can be a spiritual experience in itself. On our way to India, we experienced a very looooooong night. One the way back it was day for 22 hours. Very odd experience. Makes me wonder how the astronauts acclimatize themselves to apparent night all the time. Guest guest
Dear Aikya, Thank you so much for your feedback regarding flights to Trivandrum! I found your posts very helpful, and encouraging (I do plan on traveling via Singapore, and am glad to hear you had such a positive experience there!) Namah Shivaya, Kandar, Thank you for the tip regarding when to fly - I am thinking I may go from either Dec or Jan through April as I did the last time I visited India. Though I imagine seeing Amma over the summer will make me long to attend her Birthday Celebration! Gratefully, Kirsten
