For what it's worth (Buffalo Springfield, 1967), Keval means literally "only", "alone", "absolute". I don't think too much about the literal meaning, though I could relate it to the feelings of loneliness I've experienced due to Asperger's syndrome. When people (usually non-devotees) ask me what it means, I get tempted to tell them that Keval is "horse" in French! (cheval) BTW, one of the 2001 bhajans "Ishwar tumhi dayakaro" has my name in the 3rd verse: Mata tumhi tumhi pita Bandhu tumhi tumhi sakha Keval tumhara asra Tum bin hamara kaun hai [you are our mother, father, benefactor and friend. You are our only refuge. Other than you, who is here for us?] and it's also in one of the slokas of the Guru Gita: Brahmanandam parama sukhadam kevalam jñana-murtim dvandvatitam gagana-sadrisham tat-twam-asyadi lakshyam ekam nityam vimalam achalam sarva-dhi sakshi bhutam bhavatitam tri-guna rahitam sadgurum tam namami [salutations to the Sadguru who is the embodiment of the bliss of Brahman and the bestower of supreme happiness, who is one-without-a-second (i.e. kevalam), knowledge personified and beyond duality, who is like the blue sky, and is indicated by Vedic statements such as "thou art that"; who is one, eternal, pure, immovable, the witness of all thought and intelligence, beyond all states of being and beyond the three gunas.] Calendar - Free online calendar with sync to Outlook. http://calendar. A single word, the name Keval, that can mean a range of being, from "only/alone" to "absolute" and at the same time, they are the same thing exactly by the principle of non-duality, only conceptually different singularity and omnipresence .... especially in light of your experience with A.S. where you may feel isolated, yet maybe due to that, you have made enormous connections in the world; traveling to India (I hardly leave my city but to see Amma, then I rush home), having your own website, and being part of this list which is like a 200 person family...??? Maybe I'm trippin! p.s. "i" regret all the "imeyouyours" but what to do? MA MA MA
Guest guest
This may have already been mentioned, but the Integral Yoga people have published a dictionary of sanskrit names, which may be helpful.
