With two more deaths reported in Guntur district the toll in Andhra Pradesh was officially put at 797. Guntur alone has so far recorded 114 deaths as mercury soared to 48 degrees Celsius. Parts of Orissa lay reeling under the heat wave with Titlagarh registering 48.1 degree Celsius. While the toll in heat wave-related confirmed deaths in Orissa so far was officially stated to be 10, official sources said they were verifying reports of over 120 sun stroke deaths received from various sources. The mercury, which touched a sizzling 49.6 degrees C at Titlagarh on Saturday, dipped slightly to 48.1 degrees C on Sunday even as places like Sambhalpur (46.5) degrees C and Jharsuguda (46.0) degrees C remained much above the normal. The extremely hot weather had completely thrown normal life out of gear in the western belt while places like Koraput and Jeypore, much above the sea level and considered cool places in south Orissa, had been continuously registering temperatures above 40 degrees C this summer.
