the Bombay Sisters

2. a recording of the beautiful Mahishasuramardini

You would probably have to go to Bombay to get this :)

The "other" Amma, Karunamayi, has this available. Go

to her web site http://www.karunamayi.org and click on

"shop". Search under audio cassettes, and you will

find:

Learn Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram

In this learning tape, Amma teaches the pronunciation

of each word of the Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram,

Sakti Pitha Stotram, and Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotram,

so that listeners can easily follow along and learn.

Sri Mahishasura Mardini & Sri Karunamayi Astothara

1. Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram

2. Astadasa Peeta

3. Dwadasa Siva Nama

4. Amma Astotram

I have just returned from a meditation retreat with

Karunamayi in Columbus, OH. She is very sweet and

nurturning. And her voice is sooooo beautiful. If

you listen to Karunamayi's bhajans, you will know why

she is believed to be an incarnation of Saraswati.

Best thing about Karunamayi's programs is that they're

very small. There were only about 75 people attending

this weekend retreat. Can you imagine that size group

with Ammachi, instead of the usual 1000+ mob scene

that's a typical night's work? For one thing, we

would all get 20-minute darshans (at least!) rather

than the wham-bam-you're done assembly line :)

As some of you on this list know, I am a "double

agent", a devotee of both Amma's. I don't want to say

that Ammachi is better than Karunamayi, or vice versa.

The only rivalry is on the football field in

November, when Michigan and OSU lock horns. I've seen

Ammachi in Ann Arbor (home of the Michigan Wolverines)

and just a few days ago I was with Karunamayi in

Columbus (home of the Ohio State Buckeyes).

No they don't make Karunamayi dolls. I didnt' suggest

it to her ashram in Andhra Pradesh.

Jai Ma (both of them!).. as I await Ammachi's darshan

later this month.

Namaste.

Thank you for posting this.

I was particularly interested in Mike's statement that Ammachi may "push

people's buttons," draw out old traumas, etc.

This caught my attention because I met a follower of Ammachi's on May 30.

Without even knowing the name of his guru, a process of life review, healing

of relationships, etc., began then and has been going on ever since. It was

only a week or so after all this began that I met this person again and

asked him who his guru was. I'm meeting up with him in R.I. for what will be

my first retreat.

What I'm wondering is: has anyone else here had a similar experience of what

appears to be indirect transmission of Amma's shakti?

Peace,

Khalid Hussain (my Sufi name)

Dear Khalid,

I think this is usually the norm for Amma's children. That's why they

all flock year after year to just be in her divine presence.

Namaste Everyone,

What do you mean by Indirect Transmission.....I had recieved some chocolate

kisses from an unknown person on this list from Christmas as a gift, they were

blessed by Amma....the first kiss I ever ate had me sick for the whole

day....like a purification possibly.....I felt energied by it at the same

time....is this what you mean...? My ex husband told me it was the shakti....

Namaste, Robin.

What happened to me was that I met one of her followers, knowing nothing

about her, not even knowing her name. And then a process of spontaneous

insights, deep feelings, etc., started, and has been continuing over last

6-7 weeks. The next time I met this person I learned Amma's name and that

she hugs people. From there I went online and made the decision to go on the

R.I. retreat.

What I find interesting is that what I have experienced seems to be

characteristic of the effect that Amma has on people, though I have not yet

met her. It would appear that her shakti was reflected (or refracted)

through the heart of this follower as a living, transformative essence.

Peace,

Khalid Hussain

Yes. Since I was 9 when she was born and at various times before I ever met

her in 1987 and many times since then.

Enjoy your time with her in RI.

In Her grace,
