Guest guest
(Continuing the wonderful satsang by Bala about Satgurus, with this article from Ammachi.org) In the Presence of a Perfect Master >From time immemorial realized souls have been living in our midst like common men and women. Their presence is rare, and like a fresh breeze in the desert, rejuvenates and energizes everyone it touches. They never make any claims, yet their hidden identity is invariably revealed as their living wisdom - the message that they convey through the way they live their lives - becomes apparent to the world around them. These souls are those blessed ones who have gained a wisdom and understanding that is beyond the five senses and the mind, through many lives of penance, austerities, renunciation and good deeds. When they incarnate on earth to lead mankind, the land around them is sanctified, the air they breathe is purified, the sick are healed, the erring are absolved and peace makes its abode in the hearts of those around them. To conceal their greatness is impossible - like hiding the sun within the palm of a hand. They radiate a love that is divine, and a peace that is deep and immeasurable. Humility is their hallmark. A profound respect toward every aspect of creation is their identification. Every breath that they take is for the benefit of humanity. Such beings are irresistible; people are drawn to them like iron filings to a magnet. These are the 'Satgurus', the Perfect Masters of this earth. Our beloved Amma is one such Perfect Master. How fortunate are we to have a Satguru to guide us - a Satguru in the endearing form of a loving, hugging mother! What happens to us when we are in the presence of such a Satguru - a Perfect Master? A powerful magnet magnetizes iron rods that come into contact with it effortlessly, creating within them the capacity to function as magnets themselves. This is the way of the Perfect Master too. Amma says, "Children, only in the presence of a Perfect Master can any real transformation take place. In the presence of such a soul, the effort required of a spiritual aspirant is negligible, because there is no force or strain involved. The effort is effortless and spontaneous - it simply happens: the gates of the heart open up, letting the Master's grace flow in, bringing new light and energy into your life." With this transformation, we begin to evolve on the spiritual path and become small vessels sharing and spreading the love the Master has birthed within us. Moments spent with the Satguru are priceless. It is in these moments that the Master sends wake-up calls to our slumbering spiritual sense, bidding it to grow and bloom. Perhaps it is this opening-up that happens silently and spontaneously within us that causes people to shed uncontrollable tears as they receive a hug from Amma. The Perfect Master is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. Such a person knows us inside-out and hence is the only one qualified to provide spiritual guidance according to our capacity and capability. Their guidance is such that spiritual progress happens naturally, as they create the necessary circumstances around us to enable our growth. Many a time, when we are with the Perfect Master, we experience events around us that answer our unasked questions and solve our unvoiced problems. Such incidences are not mere random coincidences. They are the tangible result of the powerful love and grace that subtly flow from the Perfect One. To simply be in the presence of a Perfect Spiritual Master, a Satguru, is therefore the easiest spiritual practice, or sadhana, that we can do. Amma says: "A real Master is one who kindles and sustains the Light of Knowledge or spirituality in the disciple, destroying ignorance. Such a Master is a Self-Realized Soul. One can see and experience all the eternal virtues like universal love, renunciation, patience, forbearance, endurance, etc., in him. He will have equal vision and perfect balance of mind in all circumstances. There will not be even an iota of selfishness in him. He will have no desires except the good and well-being of the entire creation. " " Spiritual practice becomes smooth and less complicated in the presence of a living Satguru. Those are the souls with whom we must establish an unshakable relationship." " A Guru's presence is unique. Even though the wind is everywhere, only under a tree will we find coolness. Likewise, for us who live in the scorching heat of worldly existence, a Guru is necessary. A Guru's presence will give us peace and tranquility." "A spiritual aspirant himself cannot remove his subtle vasanas (latent tendencies and desires). To overcome adverse circumstances one needs the guidance, instruction and grace of a Satguru." "Faith in the Guru will always protect you just like a mother. Faith that your Guru is omniscient, omnipotent and all-pervading is what is needed. This kind of faith will give you mental strength and power to cross over all obstacles that might arise on your spiritual path. " It is after countless births and much wandering that the soul finally reaches the illuminating presence of the Satguru. Like a huge ocean liner, the Satguru has the capacity to carry innumerable souls across the ocean of worldly life to the bliss of oneness with the Supreme - the final destination of every soul. What should we do, on our part, to progress to the goal? All we need to do is to take the time and effort to bring ourselves into the Satguru's presence, together with an open mind and the will to follow the Satguru's advice - a relatively small undertaking for the immense peace, contentment and happiness that will surely follow. Guest guest
- Ravishankar Krishnan ammachi Friday, July 18, 2003 4:45 PM In the Presence of a Perfect Master Namaste, I have been a member of your group for three days now and, while I am not yet ready to enter into the discourses, I feel blessed to have found you and am following the discussions with passionate interest. I spent two days last week in Mother's presence in Fairfield, Iowa, and, while I had expected the experience to be monumental, I had not anticipated the awe-someness that it inspires; something seems to have changed at a very profound level within me and I am still reeling from the experience. Tears still flow unexpectedly and alternate with the desire to giggle like a little girl (I am fifty and usually fairly dignified!) and despite rather severe arthritis (I had to be in the Special Needs section because of long-standing hip problmes), I am hopping around like a teenager. We are so blessed to walk the earth at the same time She does, and to have been in Her arms is still more than my mind can truly comprehend. What must it be like to TRULY comprehend the magnitude of grace and power that She offers! Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Dixie, Thank you for your wonderful account of meeting Mother. I'm glad you had such a moving experience. You said: "What must it be like to TRULY comprehend the magnitude of grace and power that She offers!" And I agree. I don't think I will comprehend all that Mother is until I merge in Her. For this child it may be a very long time ;-) At Her Feet Prasadini Dixie Lou Thacker wrote: > > - > Ravishankar Krishnan > ammachi > Friday, July 18, 2003 4:45 PM > In the Presence of a Perfect Master > Namaste, > I have been a member of your group for three days now and, while I > am not yet ready to enter into the discourses, I feel blessed to have > found you and am following the discussions with passionate interest. > > I spent two days last week in Mother's presence in Fairfield, Iowa, > and, while I had expected the experience to be monumental, I had not > anticipated the awe-someness that it inspires; something seems to have > changed at a very profound level within me and I am still reeling from > the experience.
