Guest guest
That was also the impression that I got, that somehow each of us felt that way. No human could make eye contact with everyone at once like that! That's what I mean when I say "if there was any doubt" it was gone in that moment. I was rational enough to realize that no normal person could look at thousands people in the eye in a matter of seconds. And it was the WAY she looked, what the look felt like. It was wondeful and devastating. Yes, like Superman! Super Amma destroyed a little bit of "me" that day with that loving, in-human, all-encompassing look. Man, I don't know how Arjuna handled it! He got such a glimpse of God. What little I saw rocked my world (in the literal sense, not in the mid-90s MTV culture Sandra Bernhardt sense). It occurred to me that I couldn't live my life the way I had been anymore knowing what I do now. Since then, alcohol makes me sick. And I was a drinker! I run a liquor store! Now, when a wine salesman comes in with samples, I can only taste a sip from the glass. I have absolutely NO desire to be intoxicated anymore. Maybe that will fade over the next several months, maybe I'll slip, but right now "mere alcohol doesn't thrill me at all" 'cause I get a kick out of Amma! (Yea, I was listening to Sinatra last night) Also, the night of Devi Bhava, a wisdom tooth that was nagging me for years suddenly popped out. I noticed it that morning the first time I ate something. I told one of my friends from Austin who said she thinks lots of people experience growth like that and it reminded me of Moses on the mountain who aged 30 years in 3 days because of his proximity to God's raw power. Part of getting the maximum appreciation from Amma is to move beyond the emotionalism that many people experience around her. I'm not saying it is "bad", of course it is beautiful, it is the heart, it is wonderful, what I'm saying is that the heart chakra is a level of consciousness, an opening of the subtle body, and the centers of the head are not so emotional. To be a strong yogi or yogini, we have to move beyond emotionalism. > > Man, I don't know how Arjuna handled it! He got such a > glimpse of God. Maybe someday I'll get there, but right now I'm still taking it all in. That weekend was the very first time I'd ever seen Amma in person, so it was pretty emotional and still is. Also, I remember reading over and over that Amma encourages deep emotional longing and crying to be close to God. Maybe she means that is the first step...? --- Don James <djames wrote: > Ammachi, Miranda Soliz > <msoliz2000> wrote: > > -In guru traditions, they say that the look or > glance of an > enlightened being can enlighten you.
