Guest guest
Om Amriteshwariyai Namaha Does anyone know what song this is, and whether it can be found on any of the tapes/CDs? (it is soooo beautiful!) Amma sings a new bhajan at the request of an AICT student during darshan: http://downloads.amritapuri.org/movies/ekm/sing.mpg Also - does anyone know whether it's safe to arrive into Trivandrum and take a taxi to Amritapuri at 11pm? I'd feel more comfortable traveling during the day, but it appears that Singapore Airlines only flies into Trivandrum late at night. (I had posted this question a while back, but the post never appeared on the board for some reason)
Guest guest
Dear Kirsten, In regard to the late arrival, one of my friends always plans to spend the night at a hotel in Trivandrum when she arrives at that time. I personally think it's a really good decision to take Singapore airlines-- too bad they arrive at such an inconvenient time. Some choose to take the 3 hr. taxi drive to Amritapuri at that time, but it may be hard to find anyone awake to help you get into a room. If you have a friend with a room who's expecting you, that will work, too. Guest guest
Hi Kirsten, I would like add this to Jyotsna's post. 99.9% of flights into India arrive late at night or early in the morning. As a westerner (especially a woman with no knowledge of the local language and with a lot of US $$$$ and other foreign goods) it would not be advisable to travel alone in a cab in those wee hours. It would be better to check into a hotel or remain at the airport overnight and take a cab from there, where I believe they keep records of which taxi went where (The system was supposed to start the last time I was there. Not sure if it has). That way you can be sure you are not getting into a rogue taxi. Good luck. Ammachi, "E. Guest guest
Kristen, Last August I flew into Trivandrum and took the late night taxi to Amritapuri. The ashram advised going to the pre-paid taxi stand at the airport (which I did), tell them your exact destination, pay the set fee and leave with their driver. As a western woman travelling alone in India for the first time it was quiet an experience, but I never felt unsafe, just overwhelmed. When I arrived at the ashram the Indian visitor area was staffed and they set me up in an Indian flat for the night, which I had to give up the next day and move upstairs to a western flat. I thought of staying over night in Trivandrum, but by the time I arrived I just felt pulled to run to my Mother's home. I am not recommending either choice, just would encourage you to listen for guidance for what is best for you. May your travels be safe and fulfilling! Dear Kristen, In my opinion, Omana has given the best advice yet! I've never felt afraid in a taxi in India, even when arriving in Bombay at 1:00 a.m. and going out to the dark parking lot with my taxi driver. But, as she says, the best thing is to go with your own divine intuition. Sincerely, Jyotsna > > > >
Guest guest
Vaju, here in Fairfield, told me that getting in the wrong cab can be very dangerous in certain parts of India (she mentioned Bombay). Young Indian girls may be kidnapped and forced into prostitution. Americans may be driven off course and robbed. Enjoy India, but don¹t be careless. on 8/20/03 9:21 PM, E. Guest guest
I wanted to make one comment re: late night taxi vs. staying overnight in Cochin or Trivandrum. The only reason I have chosen to stay overnight in Cochin is because I want to rest after a long journey and be fresh by the time I arrive in Amritapuri. But I'm under the impression that anyone who is registered for Amma's birthday celebration arriving into one of these 2 airports will be well taken care of. The MA Center is asking everyone who is registered to include their flight information and whether or not they will need an airport pickup for a nominal fee. I've heard that Amma wants to make it as easy as possible for Western devotees. So if you want to go straight from the airport, there shouldn't be any problem. But it's a lot of travelling after a long journey, so I personally recommend a rest in a nice hotel. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. How long is the ride from Cochin airport to Ashram? p.
Guest guest
Dear sister Premarupa, I copied and pasted this from the Amrtiapuri home page site, from the topic list on how to reach the ashram. http://www.amritapuri.org/ashram/directs.htm " The journey from Trivandrum takes about three hours and costs about Rs. 1,300. From Cochin, the journey takes about four hours and costs about Rs. 1,600. You ask to come by the "Beach Road" from Karunagappally. This road crosses the backwaters by a bridge and brings you directly into the ashram premises. Otherwise you will be dropped off in Vallickavu. From there you take a boat across the backwaters."
