Question re: TRV flights

I have flowen into Trivandrum several times but it was always during the day.

I would certainly feel much safer arriving at TRV than Mumbai or Delhi in the

night time. Mumbai I avoid at all times.

 

The taxis are regulated at TRV. Be sure you state you are going to directly

Ammachi's ashram in Parayakadavu and check that your taxi driver knows the way!

 

 

Make sure you go to Parayakadavu (the taxi will cross the backwaters and take

you directly into the ashram). If you go to Vallickavu, you must take a ferry

boat ride (do not wear good clothes on the ferry boat!) across the

backwaters. I would not recommond the ferry boat at night. A ferry boat driver,

if one

is there, will see you are a westerner with luggage and attempt to charge you

an outragious amount. The boat ride is normally 1 or 2 rupies (luggage is

extra) during day time.

 

Doing this will get you to the ashram about 3 or 4 am. It might be difficult

to find someone who can get you in a room at that hour. If you share a room,

you will be disturbing others.

 

Better to get a good hotel near the airport for the night and get a decent

nights sleep. It might be best to go back to the airport to get a taxi that

knows the way to the ashram the next day.

 

If this is your first trip to India, I would think it foolish to go from TRV

to the ashram at night. You will have a considerable culture shock to deal

with as it is. No sense making it harder.
