Guest guest
Avram, This 'twirling' is known as pradakshina- actually Atma Pradakshina. Pradakshina is the term for circumambulation. When we walk around a temple, or the sanctum sanctorum where the Deity is installed, we walk around in such a way the idol, temple is always to our right- that is we go clockwise around it. ( there is an exception at certain Shiva temples- i dont know the reason why). When we twirl around ourselves , that is called 'Atma Pradakshina'- circumambulating one's own Self. This is also an act where we seek forgiveness for any mistakes done- actually often people chant a specific sanskrit verse when they do that - "yaani kaanicha paapaani ......" . you can chant your own mantra when you do that , and have the bhavana ( attitude) of seeking forgiveness for any errors committed during your puja or worship. and yes, you can do it every night before going to sleep, and seek forgiveness for any errors committed knowingly or unknowingly during the day . namah shivaya bala sprose1 wrote: In a message dated 8/23/03 8:40:19 AM Eastern Daylight Time, Ammachi writes: > Message: 4 > Fri, 22 Aug 2003 17:59:38 -0700 (PDT) > Girish <girishv > "The twirling thing we do at the end of the puja" > > On Mon, 18 Aug 2003 sprose1 wrote: > > >Now, new topic. I liked it very much when we did it in the program. Seemed very cleansing although I didn't know then why we were doing it.
