Guest guest
Dear Robin, Namaste, sister! Did a little digging around at work and found a few resources that may help. It looks like the yoga scene in St. Louis is still emerging, but here are some studios I found in the area: Marbles Yoga Studio 314/231-5010 Pathways to Wellness 314/995-0303 The Big Bend Yoga Center 314/918-YOGA West End Wellness & Yoga 314/531-5073 Yoga St. Louis 314/773-3940 Experience Yoga & Massage 314/918-1882 Solar Yoga Center 314/726-5133 Spiritual Human Yoga 314/892-5062 Gurucharn Khalsa 314/771-8553, or 989-0988* Yoga First 314/918-0046 Starfin/Candle River Yoga 314/569-5744 *This teacher is most likely a kundalini yoga teacher, which could be a really fun style for your daughter, but also may aggrivate her a bit. I recommend Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga, Kundalini, or Vinyasa (flow) styles. I'd try to avoid Bikram (the one with the heated room), and most of the other styles that have suddenly popped up on the scene. My personal philosophy about yoga is that it has been bringing about health, well-being and enlightenment for three thousand years, and we don't really need to improve upon it, or claim that we reinvented it. Of course, every teacher brings something new to the practice, but the work ABSOLUTELY works for itself, believe me! It will change your life! I'm not sure which of these studios offer children's yoga, but call around, and don't be afraid to ask for advice from these people. They may know exactly where you ought to go. Also, it may be fun to try a Mommy and Me class, if there is one. There are tons of great videos for kids, too, which you can find online if you search yoga, children. Have a look at www.childrensyoga.com as well. You may just want to start your own practice once you find a teacher, and then pass it on to your daughter at home. Set up a certain time each day for practice of asanas (postures), pranayama (breathwork) and meditation. Best of luck with this! Keep us posted, and just ask Mother to guide you and your daughter to the right teacher. All my love, Brianna
