A Devanagari font for Windows 95 and higher only

suitable for typing Word documents or creating web

pages is "Shusha". It can be downloaded free here:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/9988/

(you will need WinZip to unzip the downloads)

I've used "Shusha" font on my Sanskrit page

http://webhome.idirect.com/~aum108/sanskrit.html and a

couple of my other web pages as well. I recommend it,

not only because it's free, but also because it's easy

to learn - e.g. if you type lower case "a" you will

get the Devanagari letter "a" (a figure 3 next to a

vertical line -- the basis for the OM symbol).

At http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lab/9988/

there are also free downloads of Gujarati, Gurmukhi

(i.e. Punjabi), Bengali and Marathi fonts. But as far

as I know, Marathi uses the same standard devanagari

script as in Sanskrit and Hindi.
