Jai Vallathn:

Thank you for expressing your views about the enhanced policies.

I am somewhat surprised though, at what you said. There are no restrictions

such as 'no criticism of Ammachi'. How did you ever get this idea?

The basic premise is that this list is for furthering one's Spiritual Growth

and Relationship with Amma.

I find that some people just don't understand or want to understand this

purpose. Periodically, some people join this List and immediately promote animal

rights, environmental issues, vegetarianism, other Spiritual paths, etc., etc.

The list is long. There is nothing I find wrong with theses interests. But, I

repeatedly ask the question: "What has this got to do with the purpose of this

List? What has it got to do with their Spiritual Growth with Amma?

Some of the restrictions are for people who join this list, not because they

have any interest in Amma, but solely to promote their own particular

interests.

Items 1, 3 and 4 that I mentioned on the Policy Enhancements post I made on

Sept. 4th are directly related to the above.

It is an entirely different situation if someone wants to discuss Amma's

teachings on these subjects.

We have had two unfortunate discussions here on the alleged misconduct of Sai

Baba. No facts, no evidence, no claims substantiated. Just rumors and

opinions. A great deal of hostility was expressed and many people were

considerably

upset over the topic. Thinking that the topic (the first time) would die out

shortly, I didn't take any immediate action. It did not die, it got worse and I

finally cut if off.

I saw a sharp increase in people unsubscribing. Many of these people had made

a very significant contribution to the purpose of this List. I found it very

disheartening to see these people leave.

In hindsight, I felt I did not act fast enough in closing topic.

Hence, item 5.

Item 2: we are here to further our Growth and Love with Amma. If this is our

purpose, why would anyone attempt to be so disrespectful and attempt to

discredit Her? If anyone did, I would seriously question their motives. Their

behavior would not be appropriate to this Path.

Items 6 and 8 I think are self explanatory. I moderate on several other

Groups and there has been a noticeable increase in porno advertising. Recent

ones that hit on the Ammachi List are the worse I have seen.

Item 7: Each person can join the List themselves and I see no need for

another to post messages on behalf on someone else.

There is nothing really new here except one. In any questionable post, I look

for the motive and intent of the person making the post and decide on a

course of action accordingly.

The exception is that I have added the unsolicited emails sent privately to

any member of the List. One person did this and sent an email that was very

disturbing to the receiver. I certainly do not wish to see people holding back

from sharing on the List because of possible repercussions or abusiveness sent

privately. If this happens to anyone, I want to know.

Up until now, the guidelines for the Ammachi List have been very general and

somewhat loose. By being more specific, I hope it will prevent abuses on the

List by people who have no interest in Ammachi or who do not honor the basic

purpose of us being here together.

Does this clarify the guidelines for you?

Om Amriteshwariyai Namaha!

Thanks, Kandar, for clarifying the guidelines.

I misread 'attempt to discredit Ammachi' as 'criticize Ammachi' -- if there

is no

motive to bring Ammachi a bad name, I suppose it is OK. Although I do

believe

that like Hiranyakashipu, even attempting to discredit the lord can bring

salvation as well as developing love for the lord, I can understand that you

may not

want to broaden the list quite that much.

(Incidentally, Amma is wont to broadcast my problems and weaknesses to the

general darshan public. When I complained to her, she asked me why I should

be embarrassed, since the ashram people are all my family. I pointed out to

her that her websites

and publications are carefully pruned (read: censored). I warned her that I

was going to put bad

stuff about her on the web and elsewhere; let's see how she liked it. She

told me to

go right ahead and write what I wanted. Ultimately, though, there is a

benefit in that

my shame is reduced, even though I bet there are better ways of achieving

that end.)

Regarding the other topics that you want to forbid, I agree with you.

I assure you Nandu at least one of the things that Amma taunted you

with had some deep signficance for me(maybe i will share what that

was many years from now :-));;

Like you I too scold and criticize Amma when I feel like(of course in

the privacy of my mind), as Her children, I think we are entitled to

this privelege; after all is not Mother a loving and forgiving

mother, rather than a wrathful and vengeful Mom, so we should take

full advantage of that:-)

AND one thing I will tell, based on what I saw at the San Ramon

retreat, Amma has great love and affection for you

Warm regards

Dear Vallathji,

Yes, I and others I know have been surprised at how Amma plays

with you. I think you handle it well, for what that's worth.

There is amazement that you are so honored to be Amma's

plaything, usually followed by jealousy. I can understand

your embarrassment, but deep down don't you prefer that to

being ignored?
