Guest guest
Namaste Brother and Sisters Please send your prayers to my family, my daughter. I talk to her Doctor yesterday, she is ADHD. He wanted to put her on meds but I told him I will not put a five year old on meds. He just looked at me funny. I am at such a loss over this and do not know what to do anymore. I don't want my beautiful daughter to turn into a zombie. Not to mention all the side affects of the medication. I'm going through a divorce, my parents are moving, my doctor calls to tell me that my tail bone is dislocated and will take months instead of weeks to heal and I don't feel that my daughters father is contributing to any of this at all. I feel like I am about to blow up! I am so stressed I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. I love my daughter so much. I love her personality. What does Amma say about Medication? Anything? What about acupuncture, has anyone heard of this working on children for ADD? I have tried yoga but she can not concentrate enough to do it. I am going to try a diet and see if any foods might cause this. If anyone has any more suggestions please PLEASE email me. I am deeply in agony over this. I need help. I would give my life for this child. At Amma's Feet, Robin
Guest guest
- Robin Wilson Ammachi Tuesday, September 16, 2003 4:01 PM Please send prayers Dear Robin, You indeed have my prayers -and all the support that I can give from such a distance. I don't want to sound glib, but a part of me wants to yell "Hurrah!" for you: I went thru a similar time of extreme difficulty ( my 25 year marriage ended without me having an inkling it was coming, both of my biological parents died within a year, my grandad died, and my step dad had heart surgery that left him with brain damage - all with about three years!). It sounds terrible, I know, but true, true blessings have come from each of these "disasters" - even the deaths taught me compassion and far greater love than I had known before because one MUST love deeply to let go with grace when it is time to do so. I raged at God over my divorce and wondered what on earth that old fart (GOD!!!) could be thinking to destroy my family. He (She!) was right - I am now with a man who loves me in return -my adult son even commented that his dad had to leave so "the rest of us can become who we are supposed to be." PLEASE hold on and have faith that the reasons for your distress are not yours to know right now...but when it is time, you'll understand and perhaps even be grateful. Until then, write and talk it out whenever you want; I'm here and I suspect the rest of the group feels the same. As far as meds for your daughter, as a teacher I have mixed feelings about them. I think they are over prescribed, but I have also seen children who had no hope of being successful at school - socially or academically - start on medication and experience beautiful relief from their distractions. I have seen the "zombie" types you refer to but it seems that when the medication is necessary, it only eases things, it doesn't overwhelm. Trust your heart on this and take it Mother; she's there, you know. Love always, Snehalata Namaste Brother and Sisters Please send your prayers to my family, my daughter. Guest guest
Om Namah Shivaya Robin Please do research on ADHD before you take any decision. I have two sons who I am pretty sure will be diagnosed with ADHD and ODD if I take them to a child psychologist. I, for one, am not going to let my children be drugged to fit the society's definition of normal behavior. I would rather pray to Amma. Please do read alternative viewpoints at http://www.ritalindeath.com/ The Coincidence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Creativity http://borntoexplore.org/adhd.htm Some interesting quotes Between 1990 and 2000 there were 186 deaths from methylphenidate reported to the FDA MedWatch program, a voluntary reporting scheme, the numbers of which represent no more than 10 to 20% of the actual incidence. http://www.adhdfraud.org/commentary/1-6-02-2.htm In 1998 at the National Institutes of Health Consensus on ADHD, the following statement was issued: "We do not have an independent, valid test for ADHD, and there is no data to indicate that ADHD is due to a brain malfunction". Did you know that the subjective checklists that are being used as criteria for diagnosis are very similar to the checklists used to determine Gifted and Talented Children? These two checklists are almost identical. Although it has been the primary purpose of this paper to relate the similarity of behaviors indicative of ADHD and creativity, it is important to note that many intellectually gifted children also exhibit behaviors that are associated with a diagnosis of ADHD. Although it is possible for children to be both gifted and ADHD, there are dangers of misdiagnosis for gifted children when the evaluation is not thorough (Webb & Latimer, 1993). Observed as inattentive, the gifted child may be bored. Described as hyperactive, the gifted child may be displaying a high energy level. Regarded as difficult and obstreperous, the gifted child may be questioning authority and creating a personal, complex rule system (Webb & Latimer, 1993). - "Robin Wilson" <lilymoonjewel <Ammachi> Tuesday, September 16, 2003 1:01 PM Please send prayers > Namaste Brother and Sisters > > Please send your prayers to my family, my daughter.
