Why some of us surrender

I don't know about Ravi C., to whom this question

seems directed, but as one who is on a path that

involves surrender to the guru, I'd like to answer

your last question:

> Can you not just give your heart to God and lose

> yourself in HIM.

> Why do you have to give away your personal power and

> money to

> another human being no matter how great that person

> is.

Without opening up the whole debate about who is or

isn't a Hindu... I practice Hinduism and believe

deeply in the scriptures. It is in the Vedas that I

find my framework for religious expression. I believe

deeply in the guru/disciple relationship as laid out

in the scriptures. I searched until I found Amma, who

also talks about the guru/disciple relationship and

the idea of surrender. I put my faith in her because

it is my Truth, as laid out in the teachings I follow.

I also won't pick-and-choose what I believe based on

what's convenient for me. Since I took a mantra from

Amma, I took her as my guru thereby putting my faith

in her. Therefore, I believe her when she tells me

"God and the guru are the same. Devotion to the guru

is the same as devotion to God." If I didn't believe

that, why should I believe anything she says?
