Good morning, all!

Could someone share information about retreats with Amma - price, what occurs,

etc?

I am hoping to attend one next summer but don't know a lot about them (is there

a retreat in Fairfiled/Mt. Pleasant?)

Love,

Snehalata

Dear Snehalata,

There is information on the <amma.org> website

about retreats, but I'll also try to answer some

of your questions here. If I forget something or

get it wrong, other list members are welcome to

jump in!

The price of the retreats somewhat varies, depending

on accomodation prices, but are usually around

$250-$270. The retreats themselves typically start on

either Thursday or Friday evening. There are

delicious vegetarian meals

starting with dinner on the first day. Then Amma

comes in the evening and there's a talk, bhajans, and

darshan into the wee, small hours. The second day

of the retreat is always my favorite. Half the

people get darshan in the morning and the other

half in the evening, so there's no scrambling for

position, so to speak. Morning programs start with

the same brief meditation as the public programs

and then darshan begins. It normally ends around

2 p.m., and then the evening program begins later

than usual, sometimes 8 or even 9 p.m., after

the dinner where Amma hands each one their plate.

(I forgot to mention that there is a meditation with

Amma before the dinner. For the last two years

Amma has instituted a public question and answer

session between the meditation and the meal. These

are very interesting!) This is a very laid back day.

The third day of the retreat is "Devi Bhava day" and

the pace picks up a bit. There is reglar morning

darshan, but then preparations for DB begin.

Retreatants are given priority seating for the

Atma Puja, which precedes the Devi Bhava. Of course

the Devi Bhava goes all night long, as I'm sure

you've noticed:). One can get a mantra then if

one wants.

The nice thing about the retreats (to me) is the

less hurried pace, and the feeling of just being

with Amma as one of her children. I also like

thinking that one can (probably) get in the question

line to get important questions answered, something I

often hesitate to do at the public programs.

There has so far been no retreat in Iowa. Retreats

usually follow this pattern: Seattle, Bay Area,

Los Angeles, Santa Fe, Rhode Island.

That's all I can think of for now!

Love,

Jyotsna

There is also a retreat in Michigan coming up in November. I, for

one, cannot wait to spend several days with my Amma!

With love,

Amma won¹t be coming to Fairfield/Mt. Pleasant again till next summer and

there probably won¹t be a retreat then. Next retreats are in November,

Michigan and San Ramon. See http://amma.org/tours/amma-tour/us-2003.html for

details.
