Guest guest
Thank you Malati and Erica for those descriptions! VERY appreciated!!! In exchange, here are some excerpts of my current reading.... On the Road to Freedom: A Pilgrimage in India (Volume I) By Swami Paramatmananda who is a senior disciple of Amma's. It has been told to us by those who have experienced [Truth or God] that God can be known only when the mind becomes extremely subtle, pure and serene. To reach that state requires continuous training and uncompromising supervision by one who knows God perfectly. This is the essence of the relationship between a real sage and a sincere disciple. The disciple desires the experience of Reality, but due to erroneous thinking and acting, that experience is impossible to attain unless the errors of his ways are pointed out and corrected. Though the advice of the Master may at times make no sense, when one's spiritual experience deepens, one can fully understand the significance of such instruction. Until then, obedience is the only way. Today, there are many cults and self-proclaimed Gurus. I am not referring to them. My concern is only with a sincere aspirant to Self- Knowledge and a genuine sage living in that state. Of course, each one must observe and try to judge whether a particular individual is fit to be a guide on the spiritual path, although it is admittedly very difficult to judge whether another is enlightened or not. Although fearlessness, selflessness, absence of sensuality and a sense of equality towards all are some of the distinguishing characteristics of a Realized Soul, they may not always manifest in an obvious way. Ultimately, our intuition must decide. It seems to be Nature's Law that a sincere aspirant does eventually gain the company of a real saint, though there may be some delay. Also… If we want to see God within and merge our mind into Him, thereby attaining Divine Bliss, we need to concentrate and make the mind subtle. How does one concentrate on a formless, sky-like Being? Our mind is continuously occupied with forms and sounds. We must choose one form and try to see God in it. Gradually, concentration will be achieved and we will be able to see Him in everything as the all- pervading Essence.
