Guest guest
Saw this on another list ... ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Tukaram's bitter gourd Tukaram was once asked by his fellow villagers to join them on a pilgrimage. He said he was busy with his family affairs but would like to send an item with the group. He gave them a bitter gourd to carry with them. In due time the group returned from the pilgrimage and returned the gourd to Tukaram. Tukaram invited them to a meal and made a preparation using the gourd. The preparation was very bitter and all complained. Tukaram explained, "The aim of pilgrimage should be to replace the bitterness that we possess with sweetness. The gourd obviously had not succeeded" : ) All rituals we carry out should not be for external show but should bring about a real inner transformation.
