I know about the dates of the fall and spring Navaratri. But what months are the other two Navratris observed? The tenth day during Sharada Navaratri > is called vijayadashami > to signify the victory on the day of dashami. > > Karunamayi's birthday is on vijaya dashami. She was born in 1958. Rather than the date on the A.D. calendar, Karunamayi's devotees always celebrate her birthday on the 10th day of victory according to the Hindu calendar. In many years (including this year) the fall Navratri co-incides with the Jewish high holy days, beginning with Rosh Hashanah and ending 10 days later with Yom Kippur (day of Atonement, which is actually today). Amma's 50th birthday Sept. 27 was the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New year of 5764. I don't know if that was the case in 1953/5714. I didn't find any mentions of the High Holy Days or "Shana Tova" (happy New Year greeting) ads when I read the microfilmed 9/27/53 New York Times.
