Guest guest
Dear Ones, Could anyone share with me any Amma song. I just got an harmonium and my son is very anxious to hear me playing. I don't know how to play it but if you give the notes I can practice hard. If I can choose, my son loves Om Namah shivaya, Arati and Amma Taye. Thanks so much With Amma's Love Daniel _______________ Concerned that messages may bounce because your Hotmail account has exceeded its 2MB storage limit? Guest guest
Naman Shivaya Brother Daniel, Can you read music? There are 4 books of written music available from bookstore at ammachi.org. They include the songs you mention. Or let me know, I could send copies just of those. In Amma's grace, premaarupa Aum Amriteshvaryai Namah > Could anyone share with me any Amma song. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Thanks for responding. Unfortunately I don't know how to read music. That's emabarrasing. I checked at the bookstore at the ashram and they don't have the songs I was looking for except for Arati but it is with music notes. Do you know of an alternative way to learn how to play the harmonium? Maybe I will have to go back to school with my son and learn how to read....music. Thanks Daniel >Naman Shivaya Brother Daniel, > >Can you read music? There are 4 books of written music available from >bookstore at ammachi.org. They include the songs you mention. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, > Thanks for responding. Unfortunately I don't know how to read music. That's > emabarrasing. Please don't be embarrassed. I'm a voice teacher who never went to music school and I never learned to play piano very well, and just a little guitar. I think you mentioned you play guitar? In India people learn to play by ear, not by reading music. So by ear is by far the best way! Since I know basic guitar chords and progressions, that's mostly how I play the harmonium, using chords. But I play a lot by ear and some by music, but I only use the chords indicated over the top. Harmonium is easier than piano cuz you pump with nondominant hand and only play with dominant hand. Just pick a simple song or part of a song that you like and find the matching notes on the harmonium. Once you find the notes, you can practice til it's smooth. In my case, I find the chords that go with the keys. I never learned to play complicated keys on the guitar, but have learned basic chord building (they have self-help books for this) and can now easily find any chord once I figure out the notes to the song. Good one to practice first is "Om Lokaha...." Perfect way to start off! The hardest part for me is getting the rhythm cuz the harmonium is basically a drone instrument that begs for a tabla to keep the rhythm. But that's just me. Perhaps that's your strong point. Who knows, maybe you and your son will end up playing harmonium and tabla and someday I will get to sing with you, by Amma's grace. I'd much rather sing than play, but Amma drafted me to play since our group needed it. It's been very humbling (ie, good for taking away ego) and it's all been by Amma's grace. By the way, there is a story that Big Swami once went into the temple unable to play the harmonium and prayed to Amma to help him play and came out able to play. Needless to say, I've secretly hoped for similar help. Looking back at my progress, she has helped or I'd never have gotten this far. But long way to go too. If you do decide to do any studying, just study basic keyboard technique for the right hand, by ear and by written music would cover everything. I'm sure Amma will bless you in this because you are enthusiastic. Please let me know if I can be of any more help. I could send you chords to aarathi and songs you want if that would help.
