Guest guest
Don't worry Bala dear, it's understandable. I'd like to know how many people on the list really would like to participate in a collection of funds to buy a house in India. I'm willing to collect the headache.. oops! I mean the money and issue receipts for everyone who contributes and I'll post progress here. I do this kind of thing at work all the time, handling collection money for the PTA, so I have a system. It is a matter of trusting a stranger and giving up some of your anonymity. Please contact me privately whoever is interested - it's so totally do-able. There's 300 people on the list. If I pledge to give $20, just 39 more people at $20 is a house. I also have a paypal account, people can easily email the funds an still remain anonymous. Jai Ma! Guest guest
Hello lovely list! So far the generosity tips in at $80 in pledges (more if I go back and count the "in" people from previous posts) towards a group effort at 1 house for one needing family in India, the Amrita Kuteeram project. And that leaves $670 more to go. again, here is the info site > http://www.amritapuri.org/social/kuteeram/ and here is info. about donations > http://www.ammachi.org/charities/make-a-donation.html Having thought on this for a few hours, I suggest that if you'd like to participate, we get a tally of pledges. Although I see nothing on Amma's sites about the exact cost of 1 house, we can use the $750 (forgive me, I don't recall who originally posted this)as a goal. Those of us who participate can make checks in US$ payable to "M.A. Center" and memo to "Amrita Kuteeram" and we send them in with a letter from the group, either individually or collectively. Any opinions or suggestions? Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha

Guest guest
So, are we sending them in together or separately? Did you contact someone at MA Center so they know what we're doing? In other words, if they receive a check from me, how will they know it's part of our group's effort? Count me in for $50. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. Pledging $40. Will probably just put in donation box at upcoming MI program with memo suggested by Amarthya and little note explaining the role our list played in the donation. Guest guest
Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha Someone suggested we send the collection in a birthday card which explains our project. I like the idea. I'll spring for the card, and i can upload a scanned copy of it to the files section of the group. 1. If you choose to send a check be sure to make it PAYABLE TO THE > M.A. CENTER < write down your check number I will email/or mail you with the check number & amount to confirm I have received your check. 2. If you choose to send cash (not so wise, but) please write down the serial number from each bill (lower right & front of bill, example my $20's serial # is CB43601080D) I will email/or mail you the serial numbers & amount to confirm that I have received your cash. Diana Burnett 2800 Pine Tree Drive #5 Miami Beach, FL 33140 USA 3. PayPal is a last resort for non-US residents who'd like to participate - email me privately. 4. If you send in or drop off a donation for the M.A. Center youself but as part of the group project, include a note that says "Ammachi- Amrita Kuteeram Project" (and a birthday card?) please let me know what you've sent so I can keep a tally, email me privately if you don't want to announce to the group. - however - M.A. Center's final receipt to the group that I will collect & send will not reflect your monetary input of what you send or drop off yourself, just what I have collected. I will post totals as I collect them using the check number and amount or the serial number and amount like this: CB43601080D - $20 (me obviously - ;o) pledge - 20 pledge - 40 pledge - 40 pledge - 50 pledge - 40 pledge - 40 as you see that's $250, only $500 to go! I will send the final list to the M.A. Center in the card, and I'm requesting a receipt from them for the donation which I will mail to each participant (postage on me) so please make sure you give me your return mailing address. Jai Ma! <<What address do I use to send mine? Always, Dixie>>> <<So, are we sending them in together or separately? Did you contact someone at MA Center so they know what we're doing? Guest guest
Namah Shivaya. This sounds great! I like that it's growing solid at Diwali. So I'm changing my mind and will send check to you, Amarthya dear. Thanks for taking this on for us. One of the many gifts received from AV in India was still greater insight into the power of getting together. Some of us, like Bala, are blessed with being close to MA center or part of host city satsang. Others of us are much more separate, have no one to chant with, little access to swami or more experienced devotees. And for us this list is crucial (am definitely speaking for myself here) to experience group devotion centered on Amma. I am always grateful when those closer to the heart of the organization and with more experience in practicing take the time to share with the rest of us. It has made a huge difference in my own journey. I believe this housing project is a wonderful expression of exactly what Amma wished us all to learn from Her birthday celebration: love yourselves and each other and get together to serve those who have less. Guest guest
Copy of my letter to M.A. Center: Om Namah Shivaya Dear Friends, The Ammachi--egroup I am a member of would like to make a collective contribution to the Amrita Kuteeram project and our goal is to raise $750 from members to purchase a home for a family in India. We already have $250 pledged by members so far, after just a few days. I have volunteered myself to coordinate the collection. Our idea was to present Mother with a birthday card from the group with the contribution which honors Amritavarsham. Some members are mailing me checks made payable to the M.A.Center, some people are giving me cash, which I will reissue as a money order. Some people wish to mail you donations directly with a note saying they are a part of the "Ammachi--egroup Amrita Kuteeram project" and they may be counted as individual contributions by you and not as our group effort - we can't expect you to organize for us- what's important is that our group members get active, and funds flow into Amrita Kuteeram. Please let me know if there is anyone who can be a contact for me to issue our contribution to and how I can obtain a receipt for the donation for my group. You may reply here or to my personal email < dianadevi > Thank you. Guest guest
Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha Darling Bala, I'm so happy that you got the package! I just need to mention that the photocopies of the checks are extremely confidential and should only be given to Darshana. If you hand Mother the photocopies, they will be handed back to a sevite who then has access to account numbers of all of us. Please give the copies to Darshana only. It is for M.A. Center's records only. Also, we need a receipt from Darshana that I can mail to the contributors. Just hand Mother the card with an explaination. Also, it should be from "the group" not signed individually or else the cash contributors and the Paypal contributors remain anonymous.. only the check writers get credit... thank you dearest Bala-ji amarthya Ammachi, balakrishnan Shankar <balakrishnan_sh> wrote: > Dear Amarthya, > > I received your packet today with all the checks and the sweet birthday card for Mother. > I contacted Darshana at M.A center who is in charge for the donations. Guest guest
This week at my job> The "Shema Pillowcase Project" Parents from our school signed up to paint the Shema bedtime prayer onto pillowcases with stencils and fabric paint as Chanukah gifts for their children while the rabbi gave a talk and shared selected readings. $12 registration fee and 15 participants is $180 -$70 in materials = $110 in funds raised Class Group Photos $12 a print with matt frame for 130 families is $1,560 -$500 for photographger & materials = $1,060 in funds raised CPR Classes $35 fee and 22 participants is $770 -$550 for instructor/materials is $220 to the school. The $220 covered fees for the teaching staff's state mandated CPR training. By inviting the public and creating a fundraiser, we paid nothing for our staff's certifications. Pizza Day (every wednesday) Parents sign up annually/bi-annually/monthly for "Pizza Day" and pay $5 per child per week - 105 children eat 17 pies per week at $6 a pie plus tip/delivery fee (we buy in quantity for the low price) is $525 (kids) -$120 (pies)= $405 to the school! Challah Fridays We buy shabbat bread at $1.75 each, sell it for $2.50 each we earn about $60 a week. just 1 week of fundraising and we will earn aprox $1,635 Next week we will do Pizza/Challah days, sell holiday flowers at our thanksgiving show/family feaste (materials & food are donations we procure).. and the week after more workshops and a holiday bazaar opens & runs through Chanukah etc. etc. this is the way there is a Mt. Sinai Medical Center or an AIMS Hospital. What we did was nice, it was great actually, but it was just a small thing next to what we could do. Imagine if every satsang group could grow into a center and do what my temple does. Look at the cities' satsang groups who host Amma's programs. THAT is truly great work pranams to them!
