Guest guest
On the main page of today's East African Standard there is a picture of Amma awarding the Gandhi-King award to Kenya's president http://www.eastandard.net/default.htm Kibaki wins peace prize By Nixon Ng’ang’a -- President Mwai Kibaki was yesterday awarded the Gandhi-King Award for Non-Violence. He won the international peace award in recognition of his role in the peaceful transition following last year's General Election that ended Kanu's 40-year reign. The annual award, named after celebrated human rights advocates Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, is a creation of the World Peace Movement for Non-Violence and the Millennium World Peace Summit. Previous recipients include the UN Secretary-General Kofi Anan and former South Africa President Nelson Mandela. The award founder, Mr Bawa Jain, said Kibaki had been feted in recognition of his role in the transition. Receiving the award at State House Nairobi, Kibaki said the Government would continue to support the search for peace in Sudan and Somalia to cushion itself from the spill-over effects of civil war. Meanwhile the President left the country for a two-day regional meeting on Sudan in Kampala, Uganda. He is accompanied by Internal Security minister Chris Murungaru and First Lady Lucy Kibaki. No word about whether Amma sang Iswar Tumhi in Swahili. I presume this is Amma's first visit to Africa. Unless Mauritius and Réunion count as Africa.
