Guest guest
from Swamiji¹s new book, From Amma¹s Heart ³Q. Amma, what is the difference between sympathy and compassion? A. Compassion is real help that you receive from a True Master. The master sees beyond. Whereas, sympathy is temporary help you receive from people around you. And sympathy cannot go beneath the surface and go beyond. Compassion is right understanding with a deeper knowledge of the person, the situation and what he or she truly needs. Sympathy is more superficial.² Here¹s another good one: ³Q. So, is purity the basic quality required to reach the Goal? A. It can be purity. It can be love, compassion, forgiveness, patience or perseverance. Just pick one quality and observe it with utmost faith and optimism; other qualties will automatically follow. The purpose is to go beyond the limitations of the mind.²
