Guest guest
I bought a very readable edition of the Devi Gita translated with annotation and commentary by C. Mackenzie Brown. Has anyone read this or any other version of it? Says on the back it was composed in the 15th Century, so it's very recent. I assume it was composed with all that is known from the vedas about Devi... Anyway, I feel like Amma wanted me to buy it. I hardly ever stop in bookstores anymore (cause of my book addiction), but I was driving by a Half Price Books (one I pass very often) and felt a sudden pull to stop there and make a bee-line for the Hinduism section. Though I was very short on time, I did it and walked right over to this sole copy of the Devi Gita in excellent condition. I figured I better buy it since Amma showed it to me. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Gabriela I had a similar experience at Half price in austin - the half price book store on Guadalupe... i was walking past the book store - and suddenly felt an urge to go in ( actually i was walking to the students union to see a tamil movie- suddenly felt Amma would have something better for me for these 4 dollars than a movie - so i walked in the book store) - and i found an autographed edition of 'The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna' ... a collector's edition from 1942! and the price was exactly $4 which was all the money i had then on me ! I was doubly thrilled because i feel that there is an intimate connection between Sri Ramakrishna and Amma bala Miranda Soliz <msoliz2000 wrote: I bought a very readable edition of the Devi Gita translated with annotation and commentary by C. I have a version of the Devi Gita translated by Swami Satyananda Saraswati (devotee of Shree Maa), published by Devi Mandir Publications. I'd recommend this version for Sanskrit studies, as each sloka is written in devanagari and transliteration. Fortunately for whoever composed the Devi Gita, they didn't have copyright laws in the 15th century. A few slokas from the Devi Gita seem to have been lifted straight out of the Bhagavad Gita. Devi Gita VI:32 and VI:33 - cf. Bhagavad Gita II:20 and II:19 respectively. > > Anyway, I feel like Amma wanted me to buy it. Amma didn't tell me "go buy this book", but there's a bit of an Amma connection, as I got my copy of the Devi Gita at East-West Books, 178 Fifth Ave., during Amma's 2000 New York program. I go to East-West books every time I visit New York. Never know what I'll find there. I also got hold of the Hatha Yoga Pradipka, Gheranda Samhita, Siva Samhita, Saundarya Lahari, and Shankaracharya's Viveka Chudamani at East-West books. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya Bala, I'd also like to hear more about the connection you see between Sri Ramakrishna and Amma... I've heard others say that and am curious... Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Cant help but think of one of Amma's 108 names: the one which means...."who reminds us of Sri Sarada Devi" (the consort of Sri Ramakrishna) Also, those who would like to read excerpts from the Devi Gita, check out this site: http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/dg/index.htm (Gabriela and Bala: see, the rest of us dint have to go to Half-price books to read it, hehe) The Hinduism section has a number of online books on the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavat Gita, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Vedanta and even fairy tales!! http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/ The main site is a treasure house of information about all religions.
