Guest guest
Good morning, all, I never cease to be amazed at what I learn about Christianity from my association with Hinduism! Since I am still unfamiliar with some (well, really, lots!!!) of Hindu words, I was cruising a Hindu glossary this morning and encountered the word 'samadhi.' It was described as what Christians refer to as 'rapture." While my more erudite brothers and sister may have known this, I was blown away: had we (I) been that wrongly lead? I was always taught that the rapture was a particular event that will occur at/near Armageddon (sp) but this makes infinitely more sense - right down to the part about one "disappearing" and one being left standing! The self does disappear at the time of enlightenment - and others will not have achieved that state and be left, so to speak, still standing (or standing still!). Simply spectacular. When is everyone leaving for Michigan? I so wish to be going with you, but please carry my love in your pockets anyway. And please email when you can; your absences will be keenly felt. If I am not mistaken, the Michigan retreat is about when deer season arrives here and since I live in the middle of a 200 acre forest (about 5 acres around my home are cleared), it is rather like living in the killing fields when the hunters arrive. As a very, very young child, I took deer as my personal good luck charms (not even old enough to be aware that totems fit my heritage!) so this is a particularly stressful time for me. Ask Mother to send a flood big enough to keep the hunters away - She gave me one last week that got me two days off from school to heal my sinus infection, so I am sure She could keep the killers out of my woods. Love, At Amma's feet, Snehalata
Guest guest
Dear Snehalata, My thoughts will be with you and the deer. I, too, grew up out in the woods with deer around, and likewise suffered a great deal during deer hunting season, especially the year hunters shot "our" white (albino) doe. May the hunters not come! As brutal as hunting is, you may find some consolation in the fact that since the deer¹s natural predators have been eliminated, if deer were not hunted, their population would get so out of control that many would starve to death. This already happens in some areas. There would probably also be a lot more human deaths due to deer/car collisions. Believe me, I¹m not a hunter or a gun advocate, but I use this logic to make myself feel better about the situation.
