Guest guest
Have been rereading the books Talks By Swami Paramatmananda. I find that he interprets Amma's teachings in a way that makes them very approachable for westerners. Found some references in Volume I that spoke to some of the postings at this site about the difficulties in peoples lives, about effort, and how to progress spiritually when we are so burdened in worldly life. Swamiji said, "So how can you get divine bliss unless you work for it? One of the stages is this kind of miserable condition, where your're struggling with all the grossest stuff of your personality, your past personality, your previous births' personalities. But once you get beyond that, the scum on the surface of the pond clears for a moment and then you see the clear water. Once you start to get a glimpse of your real nature, the Atman, or you start to feel the presence of God, you feel some devotion, then spiritual life becomes bliss. Then all these rules and regulations and do's and don'ts, they become very easy. When you become really deep in that, you become established in the Self or in God's presence, then it becomes natural. You just have to cultivate it. As Mother says, "First comes the rehersal, then the real play starts." Sadhana is like a rehersal and the state of bliss is like the play." Jai Ma!
