Unselfishness is God

Indeed. What a great segue into Swami Amritswarupananda's story about the

plane being canceled in Frankfurt causing cancellation of the first morning

program in MI.:

 

Amma and Her tour group travelled 8 hours by bus from Milan to Frankfurt.

After boarding the plane for Detroit, it was announced there was a

mechanical problem which was being addressed. They waited on the plane for 3

more hours. There was a lot of grumbling. Some passengers got off to try to

catch other planes. According to Swamiji, the only one on the plane whose

face remained completely relaxed was Amma's.

 

Finally they were told the flight was canceled and they went back into the

airport. Much distress, including calling MI hosts and breaking the news,

with no idea when they could actually arrive, would there be an evening

program, etc. By now the tour staff was grumbling too. But not Amma. She

told them to get the new songs, and they practiced singing for several

hours.

 

Where were they to spend the night? There was a huge event in Frankfurt, so

most of the accommodations where filled. Swamiji managed to find a couple of

rooms in a nice hotel nearby for Amma. She refused and travelled with the

group another several hours to reach the nearest accommodations where all

could stay.

 

How well this story illustrates the points being made in Swami Vivikananda's

teaching.
