She replied, "I have 330 million ishta devatars in each of the cells of my body waiting for my command to create or destroy universes." HOLY CRAP!!! Did She really say this???Would like to know more about this. It seems unlike Her to put things quite this way. it puts an interesting perspective on my continual issue with omniscience. You see, She does not know physics and could never reach the understanding that physicist had (without years of study). Despite this, however, She may not have a theoretical, conceptual knowledge but She is saying She has a much more powerful knowledge of this physics, shall we say. It is not a conceptual analysis and it is not therefore clear and coherent. But, She seems to have a claim to a sort of, if not omniscience, then omnipotence. Of course, that leads to more questions, about evil...Avram

In his autobiography, Paramahansa Yogananda states that he seldom read books after a certain point because as soon as he picked a book up, he "knew" what it contained. Although I can't cite other specifics, it seems that I've read of several highly advanced souls that could discuss any subject with an extreme degree of understanding whether or not anything in their backgrounds indicated that this should be the case. There is a segment in one of the biographies about Amma in which She had been interviewed by scientists and was found to have fairly extensive knowledge of science - even to having claimed that there were several more "dimensions" than were recognized at the time - and string theory may well prove Her to be right. It seems to me that omniscience would, indeed, allow the avatar/mahatma/whatever to have vast knowledge - perhaps all knowledge in their command. The only question I have ever had concerning this type of thing is one that was posted earlier: does Amma, in fact, need a translator because of the language barriers? I've wondered about this for a long time and have drawn my own conclusion - and it is that only - that perhaps the translator is really for us. Is it possible that Amma understands, through the heart, all that is put before Her- yet uses a translator to communicate back to us in a manner we will understand? And is it also possible that She is providing the translator with a beautiful opportunity to serve and "advance" in his/her own right? I've never felt any doubt over Amma's omniscience-just questions about how She uses it in our lives. I bet our (or certainly mine!) lack of grace and true understanding causes Her to do some real contortions to reach us. Anyway, thank you for the intersting topic; I truly value each new opportunity to examine my own understanding and have it expanded or changed as new approaches touch me (thank you agagin, yogaman!).
