Guest guest
Namah Shivaya! I sat right next to the women who cried when Amma answered her question about feeling sensitive after going to the doctor... Amma clearly, directs her answers to the more subtle aspects or issues the questioner was dealing with...not just the surface question, which the questioner may be hiding a bit, because it is such a public forum..Amma cuts through this camoflauge and answers the real question...I saw the women crying not as being disatisfied, but as having a breakthrough. She saw that Amma was penetrating to her real issue, and I believe she was very moved. Om Namah Shivaya! Chris
Guest guest
Chris: I sat right behind her. She was, indeed, very moved/touched by the answer. She was crying quite hard after Amma's answer! Guest guest
Om Amriteshwaryai namah, The first time I asked Amma a question, I was so moved by Her answer that I cried convulsively for a very long time afterwards, doing spontaneous prostrations in the process. I had simply asked Amma if I should move in with my mother so I could save money to travel to Amritapuri, and She told the translator/brahamacharini "Yes". I think it was having Her direct, intimate contact that made me break down in tears (though devotees remarked that I looked like I was very upset, I was actually sobbing out of deep gratitude and joy). This is not a put-down of Amma¹s ability to answer questions. She just didn¹t feel that her issue had been addressed or resolved.
Guest guest
Just spoke with Toni (Lalita) Rubin at lunch about this. She said that Big Swami had a long chat with the girl afterwards in which he told her, among other things, that he felt that Amma hadn¹t understood her question, hence the unsatisfactory answer. (Seems like he didn¹t take adequate responsibility for garbling the translation.) on 12/3/03 9:34 AM, Rick Archer at rick wrote: > on 12/2/03 7:14 PM, ckeniley2003 at ckeniley2003 wrote: > >> > I saw the women crying not as being disatisfied, but as >> > having a breakthrough. Guest guest
Dear Brothers & Sisters, In deleting emails...I ran across this thread regarding Nov 2003 Michigan Retreat Q & A with Amma. That evening, the first question came from a young woman, lets call her "Sara" who was disturbed by extreme sensitivities to others that were overwhelming. "Sara" attributed this to her recent medical treatment. Amma told "Sara" to go back for more doctors input and avoided the question or giving an explanation to the question. If memory serves me correctly, Amma challenged "Sara" regarding her attitude toward doctors. I sat dumbfounded by Amma's firm and indirect answer...but had met the young lady the night before. I then realized that only myself and her companion friend might understand Amma's answer or the illusion of an answer. .....remembering what few knew was that "Sara" was suffering from some sort of brain growth in or around her pituitary. Just the night before, I was working Special Needs and the young woman got very sick and vomited in the hall as I was standing beside "Sara". As a nurse, I was asked to follow "Sara" to the bathroom (along with the young woman's companion friend). I summoned a MD, due to the symptons that had me expecting potential seizure activity. Dr. Nair arrived to assist and question "Sara" & to assist her. "Sara" revealed nothing to the MD, who left. Within a minute, when "Sara" entered a private stall, the companion friend turned to me, pulled a bottle of pills out of her purse and handed them to me, which I recognized and said "Sara" was having reactions to her medication for several days"...and with a few more caring questions, it turned out that the "growth on "Sara's" pituitary was being followed by the doctors"...and no surgery had taken place to date. We never really know the truth ....and the illusion to the majority was that Amma's answer was not consistant.....when in fact, Amma's answer was more appropriate than the young woman's question. Big Swami had a long chat with the woman, as described below by Rick. We will never know who said or meant what...except that Amma's loves all her children and also encourages us to "follow your doctors advise" as well. I have had the evening to remember to pray for "Sara"..with hope that she knows how much Amma loves her.
