Guest guest
Dear brothers and sisters, Here are a bunch of little incidents that happened during the last San Ramon retreat; I was intending to post this a long time back and it certainly is a little late now(almost 2 months overdue) but better late than never. A few days before the retreat I decided that I was not going as I was very busy at the time; and I mentally told Amma that if She wants,She should come and see me; two days later it turned out that I had to take a course at San Jose that started right after the retreat, so it turned out that I could make it to the retreat. Now the odd part was that it was absolutely necessary for me to take this course based on how things were unfolding at work; after I came back from the retreat, suddenly things changed all of a sudden and it turned that there was no need for me to have taken this course:-) Owing to my company's reimbursement policy, I essentially had a fully paid trip to the retreat; and also made some money in the process. All I can say is that my Divine Mother "arranged" for this to happen and I feel good that She is keeping an eye on me(as well as all my brothers and sisters). Eternally in gratitude -yogaman In the last Amrita e-news email letter, we all read the story of the discussion between a young man and Amma on "love is the visa and seva is the passport"; and it made it sound like this was this was some sort of a discourse between Dakshinamurthy and the great sages (though not in silence:-)). Nothing could have been further from the truth, in fact it was so spontaneous and lively that I want to recapitulate the actual story- story happened at 5 am in the morning (for those that do not know better, the really fun part of the retreat happens after 2 am) This young man made his statement; Amma then countered with her statement; this young man then disagreed naughtily; both Amma and the young man got into a little bit of a heated argument(this was so much fun to watch) and finally Amma went and punched him in the stomach LOL. Now great demons of yore like Shumbha and Nishumbha could not withstand the punch of the Divine Mother; so what then can a mere mortal do? The newsletter claimed that the young man "meditated over Amma's statement and then agreed with her"; but I think it was Amma's soul- transforming, life-altering punch that did it :-) ---------------------------- This incident too happened late in the night around 3-4 am maybe. Amma asked 4 young Indian men to come around her; She was telling them something when one of them argued with Her. When Amma heard the argument, She came out with this story: There was a mental assylum where 4 lunatics were being checked upon by the Doctor. The Doctor asked the first lunatic as to who he was The first lunatic replied that " I am Gautama the Buddha" Similary he asked the second , third and the fourth lunatic. They replied " I am Moses", " I am Sri Krishna" and " I am Jesus" :-) The doctor then asked as to who in the room were lunatics. At this all 4 of the lunatics resounded in unison " You(i.e. the doctor) are the lunatic". So Amma concluded that just like the 4 lunatics in the story, these 4 young men were claiming that the Doctor(i.e. Amma) was the lunatic LOL. Everybody present had a good laugh over this. ----------------------------- The greatest tragedy of all Amma says in a talk " is that people do not apply their skills to progress in life, they spent all their time in little fears and worries, that they do not attain their true potential; how much more people would have achieved if they focussed on what they could do rather than what they could not do" ------------------------------ On the first day of the retreat, while the darshan was going on I felt intuitively that Amma asked me to do Seva, which is something that I dont like to do at all. I ignored that and decided that I would only do Seva if Amma personally asks me. As to re-inforce the message, almost immediately someone announced that they were really short on volunteers and so wanted some immediately. I still ingored it; two minutes later there was a highly entertaining and animated talk by two parking volunteers, REQUESTING immediate assistance. I still ignored it. As a consequence Amma completely ignored me my first 2 darshans- no vibhuti, no words, no nothing to me a fellow Vallickav-ite(my ancestral home is a km from Amma's ashram). Only after I did seva did she talk to me. Now I wonder if this was all my imagination. LESSON- sometimes Amma speaks to you through others, be careful not to ingore these subtle messages -------------TO BE CONTINUED(when time permits:-))

Yogaman, I think I may have been the young man who argued. In connection with this, I told Amma that the doctor should expect the patient to vomit if the medicine is bitter. Amma said that it is the patient's job to make the medicine palatable. I disagreed, telling her that if the doctor soaked the medicine in the sweetness of love, it would not need further sweetening by the patient. Amma did not say anything to that. Unlike the passport/visa man, I was not transformed by meditating on her words, nor by any Divine Punch. Guest guest
Hari OM! OM Amriteswariye Namaha! Nandu, All these Questoning should end, then only we can meditate. While young things look so fine, and thinking become more impractical, but the time passes by things will be much clear. The Amla fruit as soon as we eat will be bitter, but after some time if we take some water, It will be Sweet.. is it not. With Love & OM! OM Nama Shivaya! Om Amriteswariye Namaha!
