Guest guest
Hi all: Just want to report two incidents which I prefer to call miracles. 1. Suman's lamp Suman is a nurse, working in Long Island, New York. She is originally from a very remote village near the Himalayas. A few years ago when she visited her mother in India and talked about her health and other problems, her mom gave her a ring to wear and told her that it was supposed to take care of her problems. She did not even look at it for a while and just kept it for a couple of years. My wife had been talking to her about Amma and finally she asked my wife for a picture of Amma. Last summer upon my return from India, we gave Suman a nice small laminated picture of Amma. Suman suddenly remembered that the face was the same as on the ring she had received from her mom a couple of years ago! So, she started wearing the ring and went for Darshan of Amma last July and also did Seva. This is the background. This is what she said happened last monday: Monday is "Vrat" day, a day of fasting for her. It was an unusually hard day at the hospital. She came home tired, very tired. Being on an empty stomach made the work day feel even worse. She had to take shower before breaking her fast and eating supper, after fasting for about twenty hours. She also does a pooja before the fast is ended. Suman tried to light the oil lamp with matches. Didn't work. She tried a second time and perhaps the matchstick broke. She tried again and messed up again. "Oh God, why can't I even light a lamp?" she said something like that. Her son standing outside the pooja room said something and she turned her head towards her son. When she turned back to the altar, the lamp was on! She felt goosebumps and Suman told my wife the next day that afterwards, all evening, she felt very much affected by what had just happened. 2. New devotee's wish Yesterday, being the last Sunday of the month, we had our Satsang in Queens, new York. In spite of bitter cold weather, we had nearly 80-90 persons. After the conclusion of the Satsang, we were discussing preparations for Swami Dayamrita's visit in mid February. One of the garlands put on Amma's large picture came off. The host, Sri Kartikeyan reached out and put the garland back. I saw that the mala fell off immediately again. So, in the middle of saying something, he simply went back and fixed it again. After a few minutes, a new devotee quietly let our host know that he had just witnessed a miracle. This "new" devotee who was described to us as being from northern India, is said to have a house full of Amma's pictures everywhere. He said that during the Bhajan singing he felt Amma's presence in the basement of the house that we all were in. Then he just said to himself that if Amma were really present there, perhaps a flower from that garland should fall down! Instead of a flower, Amma brought the entire garland down! Twice. I was in a crowd of very dedicated Amma devotees. I noticed that the announcement of this miracle by the host was accepted very very calmly by the crowd. Seemed like I was one of the very few who got all excited by the event! These two events reminded me of the many many miracles we all have read about in Autobiography of a Yogi. Guest guest
Dear Vijay...thank you for posting this message. I have been living in Queens for several years, but have only come to the Queens satsangs once or twice awhile back (perhaps this is silly, but I've always felt a bit self-conscious as one of few non- Indians there!). Reading your post has made me want to try coming again, though! =) I have not been since the satsang moved to the new location awhile back. Does the new place fit 80-90 people? That's wonderful that so many people are coming! =) Your story just reminded me of an experience of mine, when I asked Amma for my spiritual name years ago. As I was on the way to the morning program, I was reading one of the Awaken Children books, in which a new devotee had silently asked Amma to say some particular thing if She was really his Goddess/Guru -- and She did. I was very struck by that, and thought to myself, I wish I had such a clear sign (even though, in my heart, honestly, it was already clear!). Anyway, in the morning, when I received my name, Amma didn't say it to me directly. She said it to Swamiji, and he wrote it down on a piece of paper, and handed it to her for her to bless. She touched it, and he gave it back to me. It felt strange that She had not spoken my name to me, because it was really in asking Her for my name, that I was accepting Her as my guru. As I waited on the darshan line that evening, I prayed, "Amma, if, truly, You are mine and I am Yours, please speak my name, please *call me to You*." When I went for darshan, She held me close to her, and then held me at arm's length, gazing at me, with a big grin on Her face, and called out, not once, not twice, but three times, exclaiming triumphantly and with such sweet affection..."Iswari! Iswari! Iswari!" From that moment on I knew, and there was no more room for doubt. Some of my friends from the NY satsang were doing lap and assistant lap and prasad seva at that time. Although they had not known this prayer of my heart, they were visibly struck by what happened -- and to this day, some of them still call me "Iswari! Iswari! Iswari!" =) Namah shivaya, Iswari (Iswari Iswari!) Ammachi, Vijay Nair <vjnair> wrote: > 2.
