Library policy differs from place to place, but it's

important not only to get the books in there, but to

check them out once they are there. At least in my

library system, any book that isn't checked out

regulary gets "weeded" or tossed. I've told my local

satsang this several times, but I still see that

copies of Amma books are being discarded system-wide.

I try to keep the ones at my community library from

getting on the "dusty books list" (generated by

computer on the basis of checkouts). When there's

a new Amma book out, you can have several people

you know as Amma devotees ask for it to be purchased.

At least in our library system, books are purchased

on the perception of how many people will want to

check them out. I used to work as a selector, and

sometimes when a book on a subject we were unfamiliar

with would be on our purchase lists, we'd check the

computer for circulation statistics on the items we

already had in our collection on that subject or

person. With computerization, it's so easy to see

if an item is popular.
