Guest guest
Does Amma recommend that one meditate on light if they don't feel any connection to a particular form of God, or is it imperative that we 'choose' a particular form to meditate on? I know that She gives formless mantras for love/light - but haven't heard Her speak about meditating on the formless.....has anyone else? Peace and blessings, Niscala
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Amma seems to recommend we meditatate on a form. Amma is a form of God, and you can meditate on Her. I've read that She has said we need to cultivate longing and devotion, and that we little children require a form for that focus. However don't take my word on this. When I have more time I'll post the appropriate passages from books recording Amma's teachings. Guest guest
Yes, many times, I have heard Amma and the swamis instruct those who worship G-d as formless to meditate on light. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, When I received my first mantra, I received a formless mantra. I didn't know how to meditate then, so I got confused when a swami asked me what form of God I meditate on. When I said I didn't meditate he said for me to meditate on light or Amma. Guest guest
I had a friend who went for darshan to Amma during Devi Bhava. This friend had no interest in Hinduism, and didn't strongly identify with any other particular religion. Yet she felt compelled to ask Ammachi for a mantra, and when asked what her "chosen deity" was, she said she would leave it to Amma. After <mantra diksha>, my friend ran to me and told me her mantra! (I had warned her that your mantra should remain a secret between you and your Guru.) She insisted that she wanted me to "translate" her mantra. Well, what Amma gave her was a string of <bija> syllables -- the seed of Good Beginnings, the seed of Wealth, the seed of Illusion, the Seed of Desire... but no Deity name, and no form of "I bow to..." or "I make offering to..." It sounded pretty formless to me! -- Len/ Kalipadma On Thu, 29 Apr 2004 19:36:28 -0000 "anandam33" <anandam33 writes: > Does Amma recommend that one meditate on light if they don't feel any > > connection to a particular form of God, or is it imperative that > we 'choose' a particular form to meditate on? > > I know that She gives formless mantras for love/light - but haven't > heard Her speak about meditating on the formless.....has anyone > else? > > Peace and blessings, > > Niscala > ______________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Dear Robin -- Amma choses mantras specifically for each individual devotee. I don't know that this combination of <bijas> is appropriate for you. There are many books and websites that list the various <bija>/ seed mantras. I know there's a chapter in Alain Danielou's "Hindu Polytheism," and in Swami Sivananda's "Mantra Japa." The point of <bija> mantras is you CAN'T translate them. They are single syllable sounds which have effects, but no particular meaning. And I understand that, until a <bija> has been whispered in your ear by an authentic Sat-Guru (like Ammachi), it will have no effect until hundreds of thousands of repetitions have been chanted. The only <bijas> I know which have an effect without <diksha> (proper initiation) are the Pranava, pronounced "Aum," and the Seed of Illusion (Maya Bija), pronounced "Hrim." "Aum" attunes you to the vibration of the universe, and gets the attention of the Gods. "Hrim" makes you aware of Maya, the illusion of reality which the Goddess weaves for Her (and our) entertainment. -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sat, 1 May 2004 15:53:18 -0700 (PDT) Robin Wilson <lilymoonjewel writes: > Namaste Kalipadma, > > I was wondering if you still know these mantras, could you please > email them to me and there translations.
