Guest guest
I would love to learn Tamil, myself, so if there are any willing teachers, please do let me know! (I have expressed my desire to my husband, and am usually not taken seriously. I have tried using books, websites, audio CDs...but to no avail. The lessons aren't reinforced! Not only could I speak to Amma in Tamil, but I could also speak to my in-laws. ) It has been my experience that learning an Indian language is very difficult for a Western tongue. Most Malayalam speakers go very fast, as do Tamil speakers. It is not easy! I also do not think that it is impossible. However, if one is learning Malayalam only to speak to Amma, I believe that the road will be a long one. Unless you use/speak the language on a day-to-day basis, it's difficult to pick it up. Yes, we can learn words and phrases, but to really understand Amma and speak to her, it will take a long time and many hours of study. Our local satsang has Malayalam lessons every week. I think this is a great way to get started, as you can interact and speak with each other! At Amma's feet, Niseema
Guest guest
Erica: I am told that Tamil is easier to learn than Malayalam. Sometimes I have a tough time following what Amma says though I can speak the language fluently; Amma's tamil is more mainstream and readily understood (perhaps Tamilians can verify this). So learning Tamil might be a good option if the aim is to talk to Amma. -yogaman Ammachi, "Erica" <sugarandbrine> wrote: > I would love to learn Tamil, myself, so if there are any willing > teachers, please do let me know! >
Guest guest
Dear yogaman-ji, I think that speaking with Amma would be an added benefit for me. First, I would speak to my in-laws, husband, and future children... My hubby says that he can understand Amma's Tamil just fine, no problems. The first time we had darshan, she asked him if he had a job in Tamil, even before the ladies up at the front of the darshan line told Amma what his mother tongue is. Guest guest
Erica: I remember you telling last year that Amma asked your husband about the job. So last year when Amma asked me whether I have a job, I freaked out(I did have a job) LOL. She asked me this twice, so it made me a little uneasy but there were no problems for me. Since then I have realised that there are good reasons why Amma does something; but I have not figured out yet why She tried to scare me then:-). -yogaman Ammachi, "Erica" <sugarandbrine> wrote: > Dear yogaman-ji, > > I think that speaking with Amma would be an added benefit for
Guest guest
Tamil is much easier than Malayalam. I am Telugu speaker, I have great difficulty catching Malayalam, except for the Sanskrit terms. regards Avinash. childofdevi <childofdevi wrote: Erica: I am told that Tamil is easier to learn than Malayalam. Guest guest
Dearest Yogaman, Heehee! I'm giggling at your story. My hubby has yet to find a job that relates to his education. (He has humbled himself and taken part- time work to help out.) Last year Amma told him that his "time will come soon enough", but that was in November. :/ I guess no one really knows why Amma says what she does. We are only children! Mother knows best!!
