Guest guest
I have always been in a quandary on how I can avoid wasting food - this apparently is one of Amma's core teachings and one She religiously follows. Apparently at San Ramon after a "tough" day of darshan that ended at 4 or 5 am, when Amma reached the place where she was staying, Amma headed out straight for the kitchen and dumped out the contents of the trash can onto the floor and picked out a small piece of pizza and a piece of banana, and reprimanded everyone there for wasting food. One day when I visited the San Ramon ashram during a weekday, the ashramites showed me huge amount of food that was going to be thrown out since there was no one to eat them (this was 2 years ago, maybe things have improved now); but apparently even ashramites have a tough time living upto the no-wasting-food ideal. I came across a product that can store food indefinitely under vacuum storage. I have tried this for several days and can endorse it very much - food can be stored for several days and it still has the fresh taste, just like it was first prepared. Personally considering how much stuff I throw out, this is a big money saver and at the same it is a nice way to adhere to one of Amma's teachings. The product that I brought is made by Tilia and is called Foodsaver (check it out at amazon.com) -yogaman DISCLAIMER - I have no affiliation with this company and do not profit in any way from the sale of its products. Guest guest
How does this jibe with the injunctions I've read that leftovers are "tamasic," and should not be eaten? -- Len/ Kalipadma On Sun, 25 Jul 2004 18:47:07 -0000 "childofdevi" <childofdevi writes: > I have always been in a quandary on how I can avoid wasting food - > this apparently is one of Amma's core teachings and one She > religiously follows. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, > How does this jibe with the injunctions I've read that leftovers are > "tamasic," and should not be eaten? I've been thinking about this and I realized that for me, Amma's word takes precedent. To me, She wrote the vedas, and any disagreement between them and what She says now is a matter of miscommunication. Anyway, I've heard the vedas are so many that one can easily find contradictions within. However, this is not to say that if Amma asked me to jump off a bridge that I would. I still struggle deeply with that level of faith and surrender. But eating leftovers? No problem! Gabriela
