Namah Shivaya Niseema,

The Spiritual Significance of Malas and Murtis states, "After one or two years,

the mala can be kept on one's alter or released respectfully into a pure,

natural body of water, like a river or lake." This might be a good way to put

your mala beads to rest. Incidentally, my Labrador Retriever ate my first

rudraksha mala!

Manoj,

I'm not sure how to get in touch with Amma nor Swamiji. For now, the

beads are all sitting here, in a baggie. I've been advised to NOT

fix them. But there is a beautiful Rudraksha bead on one of them. I

am sad to lose it. It was the very first that I'd ever purchased,

even before I met Amma. I would chant Lakshmi mantra on it very

often. I've worn it every single time I've had darshan. The mala I

bought in Chicago was rosewood, and blessed by Ma directly.

I'm just not sure what to do with the beads. Bury them? Throw them

in a moving body of water? Keep them? Hmm.

I will see if I can find a way to get in contact with Swamiji or

Amma directly.

Thanks for the advise!!

I don't think it's such a big deal to fix a mala. I

had an old mala that broke after several years of use.

After picking up the loose beads and making sure I

still had all 108, I re-strung it. I re-strung the

beads with fishing line, which is not easy to break.

If you want your mala to last longer don't wear it

while doing yoga (that's how mine broke- during a

vigorous downward dog sequence!) and keep it away from

your dog, cat, hamster, ferret, etc. "The dog ate my

mala" is a rather lame excuse for not doing japa :)

Namah Shivayah all,

Thank you for your advice. I have emailed Swamiji with my questions.

Hopefully, some clarity will follow.

My gut tells me to throw the beads in a moving body of water...to let

the river take them. But we'll see. :)

Thanks to all!

With love,

Niseema
