Guest guest
Namah Shivaya everyone, Yesterday I met a loving woman who would sincerely like book suggestions about coming to terms with Hinduism from a Christian perspective. She's a former Yogananda devotee, but now practices Christianity exclusively, because of the bible verse that quotes Jesus & states, "No one comes to the Father except through me." My sister told me she read a translation that said "by me" which meant Christ was saying along side me, or in the same way. Amma's way is sure like Christ's path. Radha, I'm passing on the reading suggestions you gave to me. Thank you, Sweta
Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, I picked up The Mystic Christ from the book store on tour this summer and it is an excellent, excellent book. It goes into detail on how much of Christ's teachings have been translated wrong and mis- interpreted accidently and on purpose in most cases. I highly recomend this book and you can pick it up through the on-line book store, www.mothersbooks.org In Amma's Love Jon Ammachi, wrote: > Namah Shivaya everyone, > > Yesterday I met a loving woman who would sincerely like book suggestions about coming to terms with Hinduism from a Christian perspective. Guest guest
I read somewhere that Yogananda's translation/commentary on the New Testament is to be released soon. I know I'm looking forward to it.... -Prajna --- jmohr108 <jmohr108 wrote: > Namah Shivaya, > I picked up The Mystic Christ from the book store on > tour this > summer and it is an excellent, excellent book. Guest guest
check out http://www.yogananda-srf.org/scoc/index.html the book is called "The Second Coming of Christ" and I've heard that it's AWESOME. I've heard that this was Yogananda's project at the time of his "death," and that a great many people have been looking forward to it's release for decades. Happy reading! love, Prajna --- jmohr108 <jmohr108 wrote: > Namah Shivaya, > I picked up The Mystic Christ from the book store on > tour this > summer and it is an excellent, excellent book. Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, I like the book "Sermon on the Mount According to Vedanta" by Swami Prabhavananda from the Sri Ramakrishna order. Swami takes Christ's Sermon on the Mount and Christ's other main teachings line by line and compares it to Hindu scriptures. Guest guest
Hi Sweta, I'm wondering just how involved this woman actually was with Yogananda's teachings, as he's very clear that passages such as you have quoted mean the "Universal Christ Consciousness," not the personality Jesus Christ. Christ Consciousness is impersonal and available to all. Yogananda also explains that "Satan" is maya, or cosmic delusion. Here's a favorite true story. It always makes me laugh, and I hope it will make others laugh also. A local church was vandalized by supposed Satan worshippers. They couldn't have really been Satan worshippers though, because they scrawled the following message on the wall of the Church. "WE WORSHIP SATIN!" This always cracks me up! Another good one is Ethan Walker III's "Finding God's Love," which incorporates and correlates many Christian scriptural quotations with Amma quotes and Hindu scriptural quotations. I picked up this book at the RI retreat, and I think it can be found at mothersbooks.org as well. In Amma's Light, Radha/Christine "Keep your heart in love and you will be victorious." - M. M. Guest guest
I would strongly recommend looking into the works of Fr. Bede Griffiths. a Catholic monk who tended an ashram of sorts for Christians in India called Shantivanam ("Forest of Peace"), in Tamil Nadu, originally founded by Fr. Jules Monchanin and Fr. Henry leSaux (Abhishiktananda). They studied Hindu thought/spirituality, and tried to relate it to Christian theology - and incorporated Sanskrit and Tamil into their Catholic liturgies, and some Indian customs into their way of life. He published many books on HInduism/ Vedanta and Christianity, including a lovely Christian commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. Guest guest
Thank you so much to each one of you who offered such good reading suggestions. I plan to go through all of them tonight & deliver a reading list tomorrow. I just picked up a copy of The Essene's Gospel of Peace. It's taken from The Dead Sea Scrolls & is quite unique for a Christian gospel. It depicts Christ as making references to the feminine form of God. In it Christ states that the "Thou shalt not kill" commandment originally applied not onlu to taking human life, but to any living creature's life. My local yoga bookstore is ordering both Yoganada's commentary on the New Testament & the "Sermon on the Mount According to Vedanta." Sweta New and Improved Mail - Send 10MB messages!
