Guest guest
Namah Shivaya, Hello all...I'm new to the list, and new to Amma (about 8 months now). I am having some trouble...I've seen lots of chants and such, but I don't know how to pronounce them! Does anyone have suggestions for pronunciation? A website? A book that might help?? Also would love to know what they MEAN. Perhaps I should take a class in Malayalam? :-P Thank you ever so much, in advance. Guest guest
Namah Shivayah Barry, Most of the chants and such are in Sanskrit. Some songs are in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, etc. but the chants and prayers are in Sanskrit. There are some websites that will help you to pronounce particular prayers and chants, depending on which ones you are referring to. Try these: http://www.archaka.com/ http://www.hindunet.org/day_as_hindu/ http://www.bhagavad-gita.org/ Do you have anything in particular that you're questioning? With love, Niseema
Guest guest
Dear Barry, The bookstore was selling a "Chants" CD on tour this summer, containing the Guru Stotram, Dhyana Sloka, Amma's 108 Names (Archana), Mahisasuramardini Stotram, and the closing prayers. This would be a good place to start! Probably it is not on the bookstore website yet, because they were just dubbed copies (usually, they will turn this stuff into an actual produced CD with a cover and such mid-year). However, if you email the bookstore, they will probably still have one of these copies left to sell you! Also, there is a video called "Chants and Meditations" that has the Guru Brahma verse, the Brahmapanam meal prayer, arati, and mangalam - though some was hard to understand. Guest guest
I have the Chants and Meditations video and I found it very helpful. The audio is not fantastic, but the words are in subtitles and it's easy to follow along. There is also a really nice section on Mother's life, with some extraordinary footage of Her back in the old days giving Krishna Bhava darshan. In fact, the videos are often a great comfort to me when I'm really missing Amma. love, Prajna --- ammasiswari <ammasiswari wrote: > Dear Barry, > > The bookstore was selling a "Chants" CD on tour this > summer, containing the Guru > Stotram, Dhyana Sloka, Amma's 108 Names (Archana), > Mahisasuramardini Stotram, and > the closing prayers. Guest guest
E-mailing the bookstore as Iswari has suggested is a good idea. The Archana Book ($5 or $6) has a pronunciation guide in the back. For meanings, you might check out Amma's Books for the commentary on the Divine Mother's 1,000 names, since it gives an in-depth explanation for each line.
