There is much online information regarding this mystery, and I have caught many myself with my camera over the years. There are many theories regarding what they are and many believe that they are spirit energy or the spirits way of manifesting. I ask because last night my friend and I were watching a beautiful video of Amma giving darshan. When the video ended, we chanted Om for quite some time and my friend then said she saw a giant circle pass before her eyes. I immediately got my camera and began snapping away. Sure enough, I caught a giant glowing orb not far from where we were sitting. In the next photo, there was a giant orb ON my friends chest right on her heart. and in the next photo it was adjacent to her on the wall. Out of 20 or so photos, 5 of them displayed orbs....one a bright pink one. If most of these theories are true, I wonder if divine energy can make it's presence known through these orbs. I find it curious that they appeared at such a meditative time. I would love to hear any of your experiences with this. The Devi Bhagavatam also tells about the goddess appearing as a light. Regarding lights around people, I'm always surprised that anyone questions those. After all, pictures of Jesus often show Him with an orb of light surrounding his head. Similarly, pictures of the Buddha show that same "halo." Researchers have been taking pictures of the energy field around people's bodies for at least 50 years in the US. Of course, we live in a materialistic culture in the US and so some will always doubt. In this little booklet, he also tells us that when we call out to God as the Divine Mother, She HAS to respond! The last few lines sound so much like Amma's experience after having had the first glimpse of the Divine Mother. Amme Sharanam, ota Paramahansa Yogananda (1957), How You can talk with God. Los Angeles: Self-Realization Fellowship, p. 9-10. My first experience in hearing the Divine Voice came when I was a little child. Sitting on my bed one morning, I fell into a deep reverie. 'What is behind the darkness of closed eyes?' This probing thought came powerfully into my mind. An immense flash of light at once manifested to my inner gaze. Divine shapes of saints, sitting in meditation in mountain caves, formed like miniature cinema pictures on the large screen of radiance within my forehead. 'Who are you?' I spoke aloud. 'We are the Himalayan yogis.' The celestial response is difficult to describe; my heart was thrilled. The vision vanished, but the silvery beams expanded in ever widening circles to infinity. I said, 'What is this wondrous glow?' 'I am Iswara (the Lord). I am the Light.' The Voice was as murmuring clouds. My mother and eldest sister Roma were nearby when I had this early experience, and they too heard the Divine Voice. I received such happiness from God's response that I determined then and there to search for Him until I would become wholly one with Him."
