Guest guest
Hopefully, all of Amma's children who are U.S. citizens are registered to vote and will vote in a few weeks. Swami Ramakrishnananda told us when he lead the Labor Day weekend retreat that Amma asks the swamis and everyone at Amritapuri to register and vote in the elections. He added that sometimes it was a toss up between two shady characters in Indian elections but it was still thought to be their duty as spiritual people and citizens to perform this duty. And, when I saw the theyyam at U.C. Berkeley, you bet I prayed. The performer who was dancing the role of Bhagavaty looked at himself/herselt in the mirror and "became" the goddess. Then the Goddess performed a traditional story of her fierce gooddess self becoming peaceful and benevolent due to having a drink and a bath at a local well. I prayed for the election result that I think would bring a little more ahu=imsa. Per my professor, it is always supposed to rain before theyyam. We had very severe and early storms in California just before the theyyam performance. About four sets of hikers were trapped in snow for from 4 days to a week. I heard one of the rescued hikers last night on the news. Explaining how his group survived, he said that they stayed close together and every day they inquired about each other's emotional well being. With tears in his eyes he said that people should ask each other how they are feeling emotionally more often. Sounds like Amma's advice, eh? This man was stuck way over in the Sierras, quite a distance from UC Berkeley where Bhagavaty danced. Amma said "With love, there is no distance."
