Guest guest
Blessings, I am new here, and thought I would introduce myself, I just met Amma in July in new york and she came to me in my dream the night before...being near her was truly life changing and too much to put into words, but i feel a deep desire to surrender to mother...and i went to the retreat in san ramon, wonderful to be with mother... I read some of the e mails on the list and was wondering what does the mantra Aum Amriteswaryai Namah mean? and how is it phoenetically pronounced? thank you! may we all feel Amma's grace, love, Dana Jacimtofup
Guest guest
Hi Dana, I searched the web for a definition of MANTRA and I got the following....... A spell, a word or phrase that is to be chanted repetitively in an effort to attain mental peace, empty the mind and raise one's consciousness toward the Self or God; often called "names of God." Mantra is a sound or set of sounds which are believed to have the unique power to restore us to a state of pristine harmony. Mantra Yoga is traditionally regarded as a complete and perfect yoga path. A sacred syllable or sequence of syllables (sometimes a name, a word, or a phrase) that is used in meditation (as in dhyana yoga), usually assigned by one's guru, and believed to tune one into the divine ground of existence. One of the most well known is the sacred sound Om (or Aum). Sacred words or sounds invested with the power to transform and protect the one who repeats them; God in the form of sound. Mantras are the condensed essence of the reality from which they spring. Power in the form of sound. "Aum Amriteswaryai Namaha" is a MANTRA commonly chanted by all the followers of our beloved DIVINE MOTHER AMMA - SRI SRI MATA AMRITANANDAMAYI DEVI - for everything....say praising her, to get her blessing, to keep our mind focussed on her etc. etc. (this is my own definition.....with my zero/limited knowledge in spirituality) IN SHORT It is the Sanskrit Language MANTRA version of our beloved AMMA's name. Aum Namah Shivaya In AMMA's Service Ajith/Dubai. superblu7 wrote: Blessings, I am new here, and thought I would introduce myself, I just met Amma in July in new york and she came to me in my dream the night before...being near her was truly life changing and too much to put into words, but i feel a deep desire to surrender to mother...and i went to the retreat in san ramon, wonderful to be with mother... Guest guest
Dear Dana, In addition to what brother Ajith has said, I would like to add the following. OM (or AUM) is the divine 'syllable'. I'm sure there are websites out there that will explain it better than this ignorant child ever could. AMRITESWARYAI (ahm-rit-esh-waar-ee): Amma's name -- loosely translated to 'goddess of live-giving nectar'...again, I feel that someone else can translate it better than this baby-child. NAMAH: This means 'I bow down'. So, basically, we are saying that we bow down to Amma....again and again. With love, forever trying to surrender to Her, Erica Ammachi, Ajith Kumar Varma <aji_sheeja> wrote: > Hi Dana, > > I searched the web for a definition of MANTRA and I got the following....... > > A spell, a word or phrase that is to be chanted repetitively in an effort to attain mental peace, empty the mind and raise one's consciousness toward the Self or God; often called "names of God."
